KIPP Infinity Charter School is open to all students, including English Language Learners and special education students. Please note that there will be no self-contained bilingual education or special education classes.

All students who are ELL must participate in all WASL tests scheduled for their grades regardless of the number of years they have been in the U.S. The only exception is students who are in their first year of enrollment in U.S. schools. These students are not required to participate in reading or writing tests, but they must take the math exam.

Special education resource students should be enrolled in mainstream core classes and should have core textbooks in the four core subject areas. Special day students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) may require modified instructional materials. The Williams settlement legislation does not circumvent IEPs.

There are no research-based adjustments made for ELL. The only adjustment supported by CBM research is purposeful ignoring of errors attributable to dialectical differences.

The NAEP program has always endeavored to assess all students selected as a part of its sampling process. In all NAEP schools, accommodations will be provided as necessary for students with disabilities (SD) and/or English language learners (ELL). Inclusion in NAEP of an SD or ELL student is encouraged if that student (a) participated in the regular state academic assessment in the subject being tested, and (b) if that student can participate in NAEP with the accommodations NAEP allows.

Parents or other adult family members use a language other than English when conversing with the student. All English Learners must complete a language assessment battery of tests. The testing center is located at the CRC. The language assessment will determine the level of English language acquisition in which your child is currently performing.

When reporting special education English learners in part 2, choose the row that most closely reflects the type of service they receive. However, if the combined special education and English learner services are unique, record the number of students in row 8, under instructional services other than those defined in rows 4-7. These would be instructional services for English learners that do not match the definitions of the services listed in rows 4-7.

At the 9th grade level, students take Reading and Math state assessments. Special education students take either the TAKS test or SDAA test. These decisions will be made in the ARD meeting.

We accept Special Education students from within district. It's necessary to have an IEP meeting to discuss change of placement and determine whether OPIS is an appropriate placement for each individual student. Due to the nature of our program many of the accommodations students receive in the classroom become no longer relevant.

Tidewater Community College's ESL Program is for any person whose first or primary language is not English. There are many benefits of attending the ESL Program at TCC. The program consists of three levels, from Intermediate ESL, to the Bridge Program, which prepares advanced ESL students for college-level courses. This is a free test that will determine your placement in Grammar, Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. Degree-seeking students must also take the COMPASS Math test. The District provides excellent services for students with disabilities in the following areas: emotional disturbance, learning disability, speech or language disorder, cognitive disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, autism, and traumatic brain injury. If you have concerns about a child's development, contact the school principal and ask to have the student screened for possible special education needs.

In addition to taking the designated STAR tests in English, limited English-proficient Spanish-speaking students who first enrolled in California public schools fewer then 12 months prior to testing must take a primary language test in Spanish. Primary language testing is optional if the students first enrolled more than 12 months prior to testing. The designated test in Spanish for spring 2000 is the Spanish Assessment of Basic Education, Second Edition (SABE/2).
