How do I read non-English FAQs on IGN?

Help Center
Since IGN displays HTML pages as opposed to traditional text, you only need to rely on your browser to read Unicode HTML to be able to read the non-English FAQs on IGN. Our staff coverts non-English submissions into Unicode HTML so your browser does all the work. Each web browser usually (not always) has the ability to load a variety of languages from its options. On Internet Explorer, the option is under View --> Encoding --> Language.

Why do the non-English conversations seem longer than the English?

Language Line Services
We require that our interpreters be accurate and to the point. It is important to recognize that they interpret not only across language, but also across culture. You can help facilitate the interpretation by making your message easy for the limited English speaker to understand. Clarification and/or elaboration are sometimes needed to explain concepts that do not have an equivalent in other languages or cultures.

Can your designers handle non-English HTML?

NUblog archives: June 2000 (contenu.nu)
Every page on your site needs to state its human language. You can do this on the <HTML> or <BODY> tag: <BODY lang="EN"> for English, <BODY lang="FR"> for French. (Yes, mark English as a language. Don't assume it is the default.) Non-English copy looks like a dog's breakfast in HTML because every accented character has to be escaped. Déjà vu ends up looking like D&eacute;j&agrave; vu. It's hard to edit and easy to alter accidentally.

Can I submit a non-English entry?

Pearl Awards FAQs
Yes. Which category you enter it into depends on what the publication is. If it's a magazine, then you should enter it into the best new magazine category; if it's a newsletter, then the newsletter category, etc... If it's another meeting, such as a book or a brochure or something similar, then the "Other" category works. Since it's unlikely that a judge will be able to read it, they ought to make sure their application explains the publication's editorial positioning clearly.

What are the non-English lyrics in The Robots?

The Kraftwerk FAQ - Lyrics and languages
This is a line in Russian, which is printed on the album's cover in cyrilic characters. In English, it may be transliterated as "Ya tvoy sluga; ya tvoy rabotnik". It means "I'm your servant; I'm your worker". It has been noted that when played backwards this line sounds like "No one owns me, no one sells me", but this is a coincidence. The English word "robot" comes from the Czech language, via the translation (in 1923) of Karel Capek's play R.U.R.

Sites that are not in the English language should be submitted to the appropriate World/ category. If a site is multi-lingual, and its languages include English, it can be listed in Shopping. For a multi-lingual site to be included, it should have enough English content for an English-only shopper to use the site. It should not, for example, only include an English language description of the store.
