A computer room is not provided in the residence hall; however each room has Ethernet connections for personal computers. A computer lounge is located in the Carpenter/Wells complex.

The residence hall has several public areas for study and meetings. There is also a casual lounge including a large screen television set.

Each residence hall has card swipe access for outside doors, laundry facilities, public call boxes, a lounge with television, expanded basic cable, kitchen, recycling and a variety of other community facilities. Each room is furnished with a standard size twin bed, closet space, dresser, desk and desk chair for each student. All rooms are connected to cable TV, internet (T-1 connection) and telephone service.

The residence halls on campus are designated as nonsmoking.However, residents may smoke at the designated smoking locations outside each building. Smoking is not allowed in public areas across the Columbia College campus.

The residence halls open for first-year students on August 23, 2007 at 12:00 PM. Check-in time for the first-year students will be between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM. In order to check-in to the residence halls, all residents MUST be cleared through Student Business Services, Admissions, financial Assistance and Planning, Registrar, Health Services and Athletics (if applicable). Students will not be permitted to check into the residence hall if they are not cleared.

Most college health clinics are not open 24 hours per day, and many times an illness does not warrant a trip in for simple things such as headaches, cramps, or a mild cold. The nurses and physicians have listed below a few helpful items that you might want to consider as a "First Aid Kit" for your residence hall room:

Beginning in the Fall of 2005, Information Services has implemented Network Authentication in the Residence Halls. This is a different system than Computer Registration. Please refer to the Network Authentication instructions when you open your browser while connected to the network in a Residence Hall room.

The residence hall rooms are equipped with towels, sheets, blankets, pillows, beds, closets, drawers, desks, a phone and a phone line. Refrigerators may be rented for your entire stay. You will need to bring your own personal belongings and toiletries.

Students may have fish as pets with the consent of their roommate(s). Each room may have one 10-gallon aquarium. Students who have fish should make arrangements for off-campus care for them during holidays and breaks.

Unfortunately not. You will get a sense of what the residence halls are like, as all CalSO counselees (new students and their parents/guests) will be staying at the Unit 3 residential complex. The right to privacy and campus security are held in high regard at West Virginia University. To appropriately ensure that we are meeting that goal, tour groups are not taken on actual residence hall floors. During your campus tour, you will have the opportunity to see a model room and other amenities at the Evansdale Residential Complex. More specific visits to the residence halls can be arranged if requested prior to touring the campus.

Guests are permitted in the residence halls only at the request of residents, who then become responsible for their visitors' conduct. All guests must be signed in by their host and abide by College and hall regulations applicable to the resident host. Guests of the same gender as the resident host may stay overnight in student rooms provided that each resident of the room to be used gives her permission and the Residence Coordinator is notified.

You will find your DCI computer in your room, in its original box, with all the necessary cabling and software. The system will be ready to use once you open the box and make a few simple connections. Each system includes a "Getting Started Guide" and a printer connection guide to assist you in getting set up. There may be security related updates that must be installed before connecting to the network.

Information will be sent to you in advance of the start of each semester for which you have a room assignment.

You can get a medical single in the Residence Halls if you use a wheelchair, a service or guide dog or need privacy due to certain medical or psychiatric conditions. If you are interested in this accommodation you should consult either the Director of the Disability Resource Center or the Director of the Health Services to determine your eligibility. All other disabilities, including those with learning disabilities or ADD, can apply for singles or superior occupancy but will have to pay extra.

For safety reasons, there are some items that are not allowed in the residence halls. These include halogen lamps, incense or anything with an open flame. Candles, even for decorative purposes, are not allowed. Fireworks; weapons including paint ball guns, knives and martial arts weapons; and combustible liquids are also not allowed. Items with exposed heating elements such as coffee makers, toasters and George Foreman-style grills may not be used in the residence hall room.

Residence hall rooms are furnished with beds and mattresses (36" x 80"), mattress pad, draperies, desks and desk chairs, drawer and closet space, study lamps, wastebaskets, compact refrigerator and telephone with voice mail. Students may bring their own microwave oven (1000 watts maximum) and coffee maker. Rooms are not carpeted.

As of January 1st students who are admitted and do not currently live in the residence halls can sign up for residence hall rooms online for Fall Semester 2007. The process for current students who want to renew their current room or reserve a new room for next year is a little different. Answer: No.

Check-in will be on Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13. On check-in day, BGR participants will move into their permanent residence hall rooms. Participants will check-in for BGR at their assigned residence hall or at the Off Campus participant check in. No. BGR is an optional freshman orientation program. However, it has quickly become a much-loved Purdue tradition. New students who are not involved in another Purdue related program, are expected to attend. Please register early!

Packages are delivered to residence halls using your regular mailing address. Packages are kept in the mailroom/front desk area of the residence hall and you will be notified through a package slip in your mailbox that there is a package waiting for you.

Thumbtacks and adhesives that do not damage wall paint are acceptable to use when hanging items on the walls of the residence halls. It is encouraged that students do not use sticky tack as an adhesive or any devices that can put holes in the walls. Walls coverage is limited to 20 percent and ceiling decoration is not permitted.

If your computer is connected to the campus network, call the IT Help Desk at Ext. 6072 during regular business hours. If the problem is network-related, we will try to resolve the problem over the telephone or send someone to your room. If the problem is with your computer hardware, peripherals or software, you will need to contact the vendor. Note: We are not staffed or equipped to repair students' personal computers.

We are not able to set up each student's new computer but a simple "Getting Started Guide" will be provided to ensure that you can get your system up and running quickly. For security purposes, your computer will still be in its original packaging.

All residence halls have high speed access to the Internet via the campus network. During check in the CD, "Computing Essentials for Resident Students" will be given to you. This CD must be run before you can connect to the campus network.
