All though the emphasis of our program is on live entertainment, we are aware that many of our graduates find work in the film and TV field. The skills learned in the Stagecraft Program are easily transferable to many other fields. Courses offered include: Introduction to Film Studies, and Canadian Film Studies, and Stagecraft for Film and TV.

Television offers a precedent for achieving success with animation. Cartoon Network's Adult Swim ranks #1 with adults 18-34 and regularly outperforms the late night talk shows. Even more impressive is that their audience continues to grow. We feel that this is good base from which to work and makes the risk of our ambitions a much more calculated one. All that said, if we were offered the opportunity to make an Ether film, we would take it under careful consideration.

Yes. In fact, all TV majors are required to serve an internship in the industry so that they will have some real world experience before they graduate. The good news is that many of our interns are offered jobs as a result of their work at these internships. That is why it is best to do your internship during your last semester on campus..

About a third of our graduates go into the commercial broadcasting aspect of the industry working as producers, writers, directors, editors, technicians, and unit managers for motion picture studios, TV networks, production companies, and TV stations (see TV Alumni and TV Graduates in Industry).

Currently, the School of Film and Television has around 900 students, with 700 of those being undergraduates and 200 graduates. The majority of students, both undergraduate and graduate, are pursuing film production.

Chapman students who are not film majors are allowed to take film studies courses, but not film production classes. Classes that non-film majors can take include FTV 140 Introduction of Film Aesthetics, FTV 244 History of Film to 1945, FTV 245 History of Film 1945 to present. European Television Standard European television conforms to the PAL (Phase Alternation by Line) standard, which runs at 25 frames (50 fields, or half-frames) per second. This is close enough to the film standard of 24 fps, that 24 fps films are often simply run at 25 fps, with possibly a bit of pitch-shifting on the soundtrack to make it sound less 'screechy.

You would need to submit your work to a "music supervisor" whose role is to find the types of music that the director has in mind for his project. If you are not currently enrolled in school, we recommend taking some drama courses at your local college. We suggest you familiarize yourself with a local theater group in your area, and read the entertainment industry trade papers, which are available at most libraries. Louis Hayward, George Sanders, Hugh Sinclair, Felix Marten, Jean Marais, and Val Kilmer have played the Saint on the big screen. Terence De Marney, Edgar Barrier, Brian Aherne, Vincent Price, Barry Sullivan, Tom Conway, Lawrence Dobkin, Tom Meehan and Paul Rhys were heard as the radio Saints. (Well charitably forget the two additional South African series for the moment)

Through its focus on digital film and television making the school has established a cutting edge learning environment. Production facilities are based around High Definition Video (HDV) and progressive scan digital camera equipment. The production equipment interfaces with a high capability Macintosh computer laboratory. Although we focus on the digital outcomes of project work students also work with traditional 16mm and Super16mm traditional film cameras.

Yes. Students begin taking film classes and making films in their first semester. All new students to the program are required to take Introduction to Visual Storytelling. Known as “boot camp” for film students, Visual Storytelling offers an overview of all aspects of film production.

Yes. Chapman University holds an Open House twice a year in which the School of Film and Television participates.

The Theatre Department recognizes the opportunities in film and television that are available in the Lower Mainland. A critical part of the training at Douglas College is the fourth term acting course THEA 2410 that focuses on acting for the camera. Instructors for the course are respected professionals in the field with credits from producing to directing and acting in feature films, episodic television, and TV movies as well as documentaries, and radio.

First, this site is geared towards live theatre and is not intended to meet the special needs of televisioin and film. While those entities may find some aspects of the site useful, the resources needed to support them (bandwidth, database space, processor time) would quickly overwhelm the site and make it useless for the rest of the arts community. If there is demand, a separate site may be created for film and/or television.

IFTA Arbitration is a division of the Independent Film & Television Alliance ("IFTA" or "Alliance"). The Alliance is not involved in any way in parties' individual contract disputes. Its role is to ensure that the administrative functions of IFTA Arbitration are carried out effectively and fairly and the Alliance retains authority to approve any amendments to the IFTA Rules or procedures.

The School of Film and Television is located within the Faculty of Design at Swinburne University of Technology. Industry Placements (IP) is an experiential learning program conducted within a partnership arrangement between industry and the University. Swinburne University has coordinated IP programs since 1963 -the longest running program in Australia. Currently, the Faculty of Design has students placed locally, nationally and internationally. Twentieth Century Fox currently has no plans whatsoever to produce a big screen version of the series. Any rumors to the contrary stem from the promising fact that both Chris Carter and Lance Henriksen have been speaking enthusiastically about the idea of a feature film based on Millennium and its characters.
