If a high speed drive is not using DMA, it will never reach it's rated speed. This results in decreased performance, since the DVD device depends entirely upon the speed of the CPU. You can download a free utility DVDSpeed to test your DVD drive's real speed. If it's lower than 3x, DVDIdle cannot work properly.

The average length of our DVDs is about 80-90 minutes. Anything longer then that and there is the possibility of visual compression degradation. The period of time we allow for the DVD is ample for the edited video we produce. If you breakdown the parts of the video into scenes, you can get an idea of the average timeline (depending on the chosen package).

With some movies that are recorded over 2 hours long, the data is spread across 2 layers on one side of the disc (dual/double layer). The freeze occurs when the first layer has been read and the player changes to the second layer. It is not a fault with either the disc or the player.

No in that the official specifications obviously won't mention rival formats, unless it's to slag them off, but as with support for DVDs, it would be stupid for many manufacturers (especially those that haven't strongly backed any single format) to not support all the major formats, just like how DVD recordable multi-drives (DVD+ and DVD- support in one drive) is the de-facto standard at the moment.
