The first step in getting MIDI in and out to function properly is to make sure the cabling to your external keyboard is correct. You need to connect MIDI Out of your keyboard to MIDI In of your interface, and MIDI Out of the interface to MIDI In on the keyboard. You'll need to determine if this is a recording problem or a playback problem. To determine which one it is you'll need to start with a new file in Cakewalk. Click the Record button and play 4 notes. Stop recording and open the Event list view from Cakewalk's View menu. If you see 8 note events look at the Channel column in the Event list. If there are 2 different Channel numbers listed in this column, then your instrument is transmitting on multiple channels.

To route MIDI to other software in Windows (for example Logic, Cubase or Sonar), you can use for example Hubi's MIDI Loopback Device or MidiMux. In its default state, the PC 1600 will echo Program Changes, but not respond to them. To make it respond, you must go to the "MAP: Curr Midi map" screen in the utility menu and switch on one of the three maps (instead of "Off"). In rare cases, the MIDI hardware on the device that is connected directly to the MIDI Solutions box cannot provide adequate power for the box. There are several ways to work around this problem. Sometimes, the order of the devices can be changed so that a different device powers your MIDI Solutions product, or a copy of the data from a MIDI Thru can be used. In other cases, a simple modification can be made to the device to provide the power.

The kX driver is a kernel-streaming WDM driver, and a latency as low as 10 ms can be expected under Sonar (depending on your hardware/software setup). Currently, DirectSound2D and DirectSound3D are fully supported. DirectSound3D support is under constant development, however it can cause issues with some games. Any offers to help with implementing support for DirectSound3D would be gladly accepted (skilled programmers only please!).
