Start by filling out an online application. The information you provide will be evaluated and we will call you to conduct a telephone interview after references have been checked. We may also require a home visit for certain dogs. It is important for us to know that the dog is going to a permanent, loving home where it will be treated as a member of the family. Please ensure that you have done your homework on dog ownership and that you understand the expense and time involved.

Most of the Labs in rescue come from families who are no longer able to care for the dog. Reasons why a family would surrender a dog include: moving, financial problems, divorce, job transfers, allergies, not enough time, new carpet or new home, wanted a puppy and can only have one dog. They come from shelters, animal sanctuaries, Veterinarians, and good Samaritans who have found them wandering the streets as a stray.

In addition to a devoted companion, when adopting your new dog you will receive an educational packet with information on feeding, crate training, housetraining, and basic obedience. This packet will also include coupons for free veterinary examinations and reduced cost obedience training. Volunteers are available through our phone line for follow up questions and additional information should you need it.

You can adopt a dog that is crate trained, has been spayed or neutered, has had a micro-chip locator implanted and registered, is through many of the puppy issues ? chewing, house trained (knows to do their business outside). The adult dog's personality has developed and our experienced foster families can tell you about each dog.

We need funds to pay our vet and boarding expenses and to continue rescuing Cockers in need. The $200 is a donation to help provide veterinary care for future rescues. The rescue you adopt comes to you fully vetted with a health check including a fecal and heartworm test and has been vaccinated for rabies, distemper, parvo, corona and bordatella. Rescues may have been treated for other medical conditions such as heartworms, cherry eyes, ear, skin or mouth problems before being adopted.

Usually this doesn't happen as we have such a detailed adoption process where we take great pains in matching dog to family. In the event you need to return the dog to us for whatever reason, we ask for at least two weeks to prepare for the return of the dog and make sure we have a foster home available. Adoption fees are non-refundable.

Foster Homes: Georgia state law requires certain standards, the most important of which is that all dogs adopted from a public shelter must be spayed or neutered. We adhere to that standard rigorously. With very rare exceptions, a dog you adopt from a Purebred Rescue foster home will already have had the procedure when you get it; if it has not, the operation must be performed within a period of thirty days from the date of the adoption.

Getting a rescue Samoyed or a puppy will take awhile and they cannot be sent as email attachments. As funny as that sounds, many people think they can send a check and the dog will arrive. The rescue process does take time because rescue groups want to make sure that they are doing their very best to make the placement of each dog to be the last one for that dog. Yes. It is preferable for the adoptive family to travel to the foster home to adopt the dog. Occasionally, the adoptive family and the foster caregiver will each travel part of the way and meet in between at a specified location. Of course, this will depend upon the schedule of the foster caregiver and his/her ability to travel. Not all foster homes can travel to transport their foster dogs.

LABMED provides grant monies to defray the medical expenses of Labs in rescue situations. The Labs that LABMED helps are found and assisted by local individuals like yourself who found a Lab in need and couldn't turn away. These Labs are fostered, loved, and treated by these folks locally. We provide our applicants with information, grant funds to treat dogs that meet our funding guidelines, and/or emotional support as needed.

A good home understands most rescue Labs need some training and are eager to learn, it is just no one ever took the time to work with them. A good home gives the Lab the needed time to adapt to his new surroundings and people. A good home will have the necessary time needed to provide lots of exercise and human contact. A good home realizes there is tons of companionship and unconditional love inside no matter what the color, sex, build or age of a Lab.

It can take a week to six months or longer to adopt a Lab. We have no control over when and how many Labs will come into our adoption program. Our job is to find the best match based on the Lab's background and the family's application/ home study to insure success. Lab placement is never on a first come first served basis. If you are flexible on color, age and sex you will probably be contacted sooner.

All of our foster homes are volunteers who have families, jobs, and dogs of their own. Often, they have more than 1 foster Cairn in their care. In order to reduce their workload, visits and phone calls from applicants who are not yet approved to adopt a dog are not permitted. Once you have completed the approval process and are approved to adopt one of our Cairns, you will be put in touch with the foster home to discuss the dog you're interested in adopting.

The Town of Brookhaven requires that every dog/cat leaving the animal shelter be spayed or neutered to help control the stray dog/cat population.

We offer education to all Golden and Retriever mix owners or families interested in adoption. This is done at no charge to the individual, but through our love of the animals and the breed. Your current dog(s) should be at least tolerant of other dogs. If your dog has never lived with another dog, try dogsitting for a friend to make sure your dog will accept another dog. Most dogs do enjoy the companionship of another dog. Some, however, are very devoted to their human companions and resent having to compete with another dog for attention. You need to find out what your dog prefers before you think of adopting another dog.

You can make any of our critters in any color you want. So if you want the lab to be black, chocolate, mint green, polka-dot, whatever, it's your choice!

So, "The Wizard of Oz" is your favorite movie, you just LOVE Toto, and have always wanted a dog just like him? A dog who's small, cute, lovable, and doesn't shed all over your couch? You've done your research and learned that Cairn Terriers are (take your pick): Will succeed at this unless YOU intervene. And even then, they'll try again. And again. And again and again and again and again.

We have no way of knowing when a dog will become available in a given area. Havanese come into rescue very irregularly. We do encourage you to have an application completed and on file in case a Havanese becomes available. We cannot call or search for people based on emails or phone contact. We MUST have an adoption application on file so that we can find you in our system.

While each Samoyed Rescue Group is autonomous, all generally operate very similarly. Most of the time the dog will go to a foster home (or good boarding facility if a foster home is not available). There, the foster home will evaluate the dog to find out what would be the perfect home for that dog. Sometimes the owner is asked to keep the dog until placed. Usually, in this case, the dog is the legal property of the rescue group and the owner becomes the foster home.

We will do a personality assessment on a dog after it has been in foster care for a period of time. We pass all of our observations along to adopting families. It usually takes a week to two weeks for a Westie to relax enough for us to observe its "true colors". During the first few weeks that a dog is in your home, you may also notice that its behavior changes as it becomes more comfortable in its new surroundings.
