The full screen editors need to know how to navigate to arbitrary points on your screen, and hence need to know what type of terminal or terminal emulator you are using. If they have incorrect information, it will look bad. In most cases the terminal type "vt100" will work well. At the Unix prompt, enter export TERM=vt100 and <return>, then try your editor again.

A#4.5: Whichever one you want. Many editors work under GNO. Some of the more popular ones are emacs (MicroEMACS), vi (Stevie), ORCA/Editor, Edit-16, and Rose. Many of these editors cannot be suspended from the shell. Some have the "eating keystrokes" problem (see Q#14.1).

Click on the character you want in the character selector, this will become your current character. Then click (or click and drag) on the screen editor at the location where you want to place the current character.

The current kX driver version provides support for the Vienna SoundFont editor (with the exception of 'wave playback' feature).

The Alive editor is currently not fully compatible with the kX driver (improved support is under investigation -- please contact SoundFaction for details).

If you have trouble playing the wmv files, it may be because you have some sort of firewall settings preventing playing of programs on the web. For example, if you use Zone Alarm and have a problem, try going PROGRAM CONTROL then click on the PROGRAMS tab. Look for windows media player and if there are RED x's then click on them and switch them to ALLOW. Similarly, you may have other firewalls preventing the playing of WMV files.

Screen allows you to detach your unix console, and then connect to it later on from another login location.

My original versions of FMOCT were written out entirely by hand in raw HTML in Microsoft Notepad. I have since started to use Macromedia Dreamweaver 4.0 with additional hand-scripting for fix-ups. Dreamweaver is a professional piece of software, and is not freeware, so please don't ask me for a copy. You might be able to find a demo at the Macromedia site, or on download.com, but I can guarantee you that it will have a thirty-day or so trial period after which you can no longer use the program.

The PCT-SAFE software package includes the PCT-SAFE Editor (PSE), an XML (eXtensible Mark-up Language) authoring tool that helps applicants prepare the specification in XML format, in compliance with the complex electronic PCT application standard.

Since equations made with this editor are inserted in the document as objects, its use is not recommended for simple simple mathematical expressions and symbols in line in the text: these should be entered using simple ordinary keyboard operations or the functionality that has been added in version 2.0 onwards - the most recent version can be downloaded from the ISO Web site - (see 5.3.14 in the template reference manual).

In theory, any text editor will work. I recommend that you use a text editor with only the basics, like Notepad for PC or BBedit for Mac. An elaborate text editor, such as Microsoft Word, can put gremlins(invisible characters) inside your .orc and .sco files, causing Csound to crash when computing.

If you do not have a file to upload and you do not have access to one of the accepted programs listed above then you may want to use the Text Editor to create your document (resume, cover letter, etc.). Although it does not offer all of the formatting options of a word processor, it is quick, easy to use, and available anytime you are on the site.

I used to use elle, a stripped down emacs clone, but I finally decided to take the plunge and move up to full emacs.

The WYSIWYG (pronounced "whiz-e-wig") text editor box appears in the VLE whenever text is added to any of the areas. There are minor differences between the appearance of the text editors in different areas and tools, but the functionality is basically the same. Some areas offer more text editing tools than others. The text editor has been designed to simulate Microsoft Office products and their tool bars.

Activate it in the settings menu. In addition, any user that wants to use it needs the permission to write HTML in postings. The permission can be given by an administrator. After that, when editing/creating a posting, you can switch between the two editing modes.

Urm. I actually started doing this when HTML tools were not very good, so I had to learn it the hard way. I use a text editor most of the time, usually NoteTab Light (freeware from www.tucows.com). I like Homesite for making changes to entire directories of files, but I use an older version. I do imagemaps, CSS, javascript, etc. by hand. Yup, by hand. Actually, this isn't that hard since most of the time you are cutting and pasting after the first couple of pages.

Its just like using a word processor. There is no programming involved and its all 'point and click'. You edit your webpages in a What You see is what you get environment - so you are essentially editing your webpages as if you are viewing them - except you can make changes.

In you admin area, click on “User Options > Choose WYSIWYG Editor”. From the two choices of editors, you will notice that one is already selected (Active Edit or EditLet”). At this point, select the editor that is NOT currently selected and then click on the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page. Now that you have switched your editor, you can try again to see if the problem reoccurs.
