You are not viewing these images in a colorspace aware application. Note that most web browsers are not colorspace aware. You are viewing these images in a colorspace aware application, but have not assigned the proper colorspace to the images. Assigning colorspaces to images may not be an automatic process for several reasons: Your application simply may not do this automatically. Your application might have the ability to do this automatically, but it may need to be properly configured.

Adobe RGB offers some advantages, but also some pitfalls if you don't know what you're doing. Here are the advantages: Adobe RGB has a wider gamut and can therefore encode a wider range of colors, allowing you to display a wider range of colors on devices that are compatible and able to display these colors. You will need to use an application that is colorspace aware (and you will need to understand how to use that application properly).

For the XL1 (which is the only camera I own), this varies depending on whether you used Frame Movie Mode or Regular video mode. With digital SLRs reasonably affordable, I no longer recommend this technique for images that are not cut out of moving video. At the same time, I also found that you can cut memorable stills out of your video when you're shooting live action, and I still recommend doing that. Just don't try to print the images; they won't look good.

These acronyms simply state what color levels are used to display an image (RGB= red green blue; CMYK= cyan magenta yellow black). RGB images are used primarily for anything shown on the web, while CMYK tends to be used for anything being printed hardcopy.

When an RGB image is converted to CMYK, several parameters must be considered, including paper stock, four-colour film output device, layout software programs used, types of inks used and special effects, etc. which, we feel, are decisions best left to the designer.

Depending on which type of binding you choose for your book, there are different ways to optimize your document for print. For all black and white books (except comic size), the source document and images should be in grayscale mode. For full color books, the source document and/or images should be in the original colorspace. If it was created in RGB, DO NOT convert it to CMYK and vice versa. If your full color book contains black and white images, set each black and white image to grayscale.

There are two methods for capturing grayscale images from an RGB camera. The first is to simply capture from the green signal (source 2 in the 'Video Control' dialog box). The green signal contains the majority of the grayscale information of a color image. The second method is to use Image's 'Capture Color' command. After the three color slices are captured, choose the 'RGB to 8 Bit Color' command with the existing palette option selected.

I read your FAQ on non-linear editing with interest. I've just started making movies from MiniDV footage on my Mac with Radius MotoDV. (Mac 8500/200, Panasonic NV-DS1). I have a possibly useful hint for sharpening up images captured between frames of interlaced video. I found this quite by accident when I tried to use a captured fame as a still background for fading credits in Premier. The camera's image resolution can be up to 1260x960 pixels (1280 x 1024 on Macintosh) providing acceptable print size for pictures up to 5.5"x 4.5". Using the Pixera Personal camera, the image area is 3"x4" with the minimum focusing distance of 8 inches. The image area is 1.1"x1.7" using the 1 inch minimum focusing distance with the Pixera Professional model.

Press the Playback mode button (green arrow icon). Use the arrow pad to scroll through your files and select the desired image. Press the [MENU] button. For RAW files other than DNG, Adobe software currently writes metadata to an external "sidecar" file having a '.XMP' extension. Photo Info will only see this metadata if a RAW codec is installed that also supports these sidecar files.

Lightroom uses a different method of implementing the current Adobe Camera Raw controls. We intend to have great XMP compatibility with Bridge and Photoshop by our final version 1.0 release of Lightroom, but complete XMP compatibility is not yet achieved in this first beta release.

First, try some other video capture application (e.g. xawtv) to make sure that your device is properly working and the correct driver is loaded. If your video standard is NTSC or SECAM, check that the proper video norm is selected: you need to add VideoNorm NTSC or VideoNorm SECAM to the global section of your configuration file. Note that the VideoNorm directive was implemented in version 2.4.1 of the server; all previous versions forced the video norm to PAL. If you are running a pre-2.4.

Are you using the pwc driver? If so, you probably need to insert an additional module called pwcx or upgrade the driver. See here for a discussion of the issues with this driver.

We want it too. Hopefully in some near future version of gnome-print. Unfortunately it is area picked with patents, so probably we cannot give top-of-the-industry solution here. It is not so cool at all. In model-view-controller context both current gnome-canvas and gnome-print-context implement single view. Adding subview (printing interface) to existing view (canvas) is not very good idea.

One set of satellite images is ingested in reverse. Remapping the image to the normal view detracts from the quality of the image. Why do the geographical lines jump around from image to image? Why is the iceberg south of -78 in the 16:38UTC image, at -78 in the 9:19UTC image, and south -78 again in the 09:49 image? Why does the navigation (map outline) look rock steady, while the surface features don't? I'm not a POES user.

The camera measures light from an object at each point in an image and assigns it a number from zero to 4095 depending on its brightness. Sometimes the scientist can't afford to send this amount of data for each pixel because of the amount of storage it takes. The camera has the ability to convert this range of values to those from zero to 255. The camera does this according to a preset table of values designed by the scientists.

Only one image can be viewed in detail in the Image Workspace using the Insight Browser. The Java Client will allow you to view multiple images, at different scales simultaneously.
