The first would be damage or wear in the spray tip or gun needle. Replace the tip if it’s worn or damaged. To check the gun, remove the tip and guard assembly. Repeatedly trigger the gun, watching for spits or leakage when the trigger of the gun is released. Any leakage indicates that there is a problem with the needle/seat in the gun and it needs to be cleaned or rebuilt. The second reason is not mechanical damage, but rather a characteristic of airless spray.
