The taskbar is the horizontal bar along the bottom of the Desktop. It has the Start button on the left. Displayed in small rectangles near the middle of the taskbar are the programs that are running. Near the right side, you will see the programs or tasks that start automatically when you start Windows. On the far right, you will see the time displayed.
