The New York Police Department will begin closing down access to Times Square starting at 43rd Street and Broadway and moving north as revelers arrive. A good precaution on any field trip is to check the students at the end of the trip. We do not take students into grassy fields on our trips, and there is little reason to expect ticks out in the beach and marsh areas where we do our work. Any statewide estimate of the mountain lion population is just a “guesstimate.” Mountain lion studies over the last 30 years have estimated population densities for different habitat types around the state. SDOT Street Maintenance crews sweep major arterials on a regular basis, ranging from daily to every two weeks, depending on the need. Most minor arterials are swept once a month; some are swept only when requested. SDOT does not sweep nonarterial streets, but does limited leaf cleaning in the fall. Because of their heavy use, downtown streets are swept every night, and alleys are cleaned five nights a week. They are hand-cleaned and flushed once per week.
