Every student's AHS email account is automatically activated upon activating their Nexus account. AHS email authenticates using your Nexus username and password. If you have not yet activated your AHS Nexus account, you can do so online at the Nexus Account Activation website.

Though AHS Computing recommends you use your provided ahsmail account, it is possible to forward ahsmail to another email account. You can setup the forwarding through the mywaterloo Nexus Portal.

UW Wireless internet services were just recently installed in the AHS faculty buildings (BMH, LHI). This section of the FAQ is devoted to connecting wirelessly to the UW network. If you cannot receive any email sent to your ahsmail account, it is most likely because your mailbox storage is over your alotted 20 Mb quota and your account has been locked until you reduce the size of your email storage below quota. To set up your Catch-All email account, simply use the Helm control panel feature to select the email account for the catch-all. Use the checkbox to make that account your catch-all email account. We recommend that you monitor this account closely because using a catch-all will allow Spammers to send mail to any address at your domain and it will be delivered. To setup your email, you need to log into your control panel and click on the mail manager button. From there you need to create an email account to use. After you create a email account page back to the email account screen and then refresh, you should now see the new email you have setup. By default, ALL mail is set up to automatically forward to the email address that was provided when your account was set up. This email address is called the "default" mail forwarding address. You can access your ahsmail on any computer with an internet connection using the mywaterloo Nexus portal. This webmail service has similar features to other online email services (Hotmail, Yahoo). Using the mywaterloo Nexus portal, you can compose messages, send attachments, configure your spam blocking and even access your personal filespace.

After signing an AUP, return it via interoffice mail to Tracy Buck, Network Administrator / AHS Main Office / Computers. She will create your network account as soon as she receives it. If you would like to add an e-mail address to Outlook Express, follow the procedure below. You can configure Outlook Express to check as many e-mail addresses as you like. You can use the control panel's automatic Outlook Export Tool to setup your email account. To do this: Once clicked, the server sends a registry file to your computer so that when Windows reads it, it will automatically setup your mail account in Outlook Express.

You will have to activate your POP3 access for Yahoo. You can go to Yahoo Mail 'Options', followed by 'POP Access and Forwarding' and select 'Web and POP Access'.

To setup an auto-responder you will need to be logged into the control panel. Now click on the envelope icon, beside the user you wish to set an auto-responder for. The page that loads up will have three boxes. Select the bottom box, which is for "vacation response" Type the message in the box that you want it to send. SLED is an information delivery service. The State Library and the Rasmuson Library pay all telecommunication costs associated with SLED. Email isn't available through SLED for two reasons: (1) the two library budgets could not support the telecommunication costs to offer email accounts to the public, and (2) commercial email services are available. In some Alaskan communities, local Internet providers offer Internet access and email accounts for a fee.

Every registered AHS student is entitled to an account on ahsmail. In addition, to allow for co-op and double co-op work placements, an account will remain open for two terms after last registration. This holds true for grads as well. When a student graduates in April for example, the account will remain active for an additional two terms, i.e., for the spring and fall terms.
