What if I schedule a tandem jump and the weather is bad?
Tri-State Skydivers, USPA Group Member, Lawerence County Air...If the weather is questionable, you can call the DZ prior to leaving your home. We are not meteorologists so we can only give you our best "guess" based on information provided to us by flight service. Don't "assume" that the weather is bad at the drop zone just because it may be raining at your house. If you do get weathered out, we will reschedule at your convenience.

For any type of jump your instructor must be able to see the landing area from the plane before starting your skydive. If you think you might become a regular skydiver and pursue the sport, then try AFF.

If you have an afternoon appointment, plan to be at the drop zone until sunset. We try to hold to the appointment times but many factors come into play including the weather. We often get delayed and behind schedule due to weather concerns. We also need time for paperwork and training plus the tandem instructors need to pack between each jump.

How often is the weather bad on Mauna Kea?
FAQStatistics show that Mauna Kea is clear enough for astronomy an average of 325 nights a year. This amounts to about 10% unfavorable weather. Most of the really nasty weather is quite predicable and in that situation we will cancel our tours as needed. The final determination for the weather is made 1:15 minutes prior to the Kailua pick-up. On average 1/15 of our trips is cancelled by weather.
