Here are some tips to help reduce veterinary office stress.

Many pets have a fear of thunder. Train him to be less afraid by repeatedly playing a recording of a thunderstorm. Gradually increase the volume while comforting him. If your pet reacts severely, tranquilizers should be kept on hand in the event he should need them.

A little vomiting or diarrhea here and there seems to be pretty standard for pet dogs and cats. After all, cats groom themselves and get hairballs. Dogs eat all sorts of ridiculous things they aren't supposed to. Still, many owners notice that their pets seem to have vomiting or diarrhea a bit more often than it seems they should.

Any wound that won’t stop bleeding, does not begin to resolve within a few days or becomes infected should be seen to by a vet as soon as possible. If your pet is bitten by another animal and the skin is broken it is important for you to consult a vet regarding infection and Rabies protection. Every year for vaccines and a heath check-up. Every dog should get a RABIES, BORDETELLA, and DISTEMPER. Every cat should get a RABIES and distemper. Even if your pet never goes outside, there is always a chance of escape.

Learning what is "normal" and what isn't for your pets can be tricky at times. If your pet is not actively sick (vomiting, diarrhea) or injured (bleeding, limping), but not his or her normal bouncy self either, it is time to check in with your vet before becoming more serious.

Not all dogs require TPLO to restore knee function. Dogs weighing less than 40 pounds may have a different technique, often referred to as a "lateral suture technique", that will work equally well. This technique is not for overweight dogs. The recovery is slower but most dogs acheive almost normal function in the limb. This procedure does not work as well in larger dogs.

Lumps on dogs are fairly common as dogs age. Most are not serious, but some can be quite serious. Any time that you notice a lump on your pet, please have it examined by your veterinarian to rule out cancer or other health problems.
