You may experience a slight change in your vision. You should discuss any visual difficulties with your Doctor or specialist nurse, however, for the majority, vision settles down and improves over the first few weeks. It is advisable to wait about 6-8 weeks after the bleed before having your eyes tested, as your vision may be changing during this period.

You can quickly return to many everyday activities, but your vision may be blurry. The healing eye needs time to adjust so that it can focus properly with the other eye, especially if the other eye has a cataract. Ask your doctor when you can resume driving. If you just received an IOL, you may notice that colors are very bright or have a blue tinge. Also, if you've been in bright sunlight, everything may be reddish for a few hours.

Newborn infants are able to see, but as they use their eyes during the first months of life, vision improves. During early childhood years, the visual system changes quickly and vision continues to develop. If a child cannot use his or her eyes normally, vision does not develop properly and may even decrease. After the first nine years of life, the visual system is usually fully developed and usually cannot be changed. The development of equal vision in both eyes is necessary for normal vision.

Yes - this change in your near vision focus happens to everyone and is called presbyopia. The effect of presbyopia is similar to that of longsightedness, but they are not the same. See Lingo for more information. These are called floaters. As the eye ages, more of these are seen and they are due to the changes in the vitreous jelly of the eye. The vitreous is simply a clear jelly that fills up the internal space of the eyeball between the lens and the retina.

No. Transplantation of retinal cells is an active area of research, but it has yet to be successful in improving vision to any significant degree. Another area of research is aimed at developing an electronic "chip" which is implanted in the eye to serve as an artificial retina. Again, it may be years before this technology proves to be successful. Transplantation of the whole eye is a complex idea which is not realistic at this point in time.

The rapid return to functional and normal levels of vision is one of the strong advantages of the LASIK technique. While each patient may respond in an individual manner to the treatment performed, on average most patients have a usable level vision within the first 24 hours. It is not unusual for vision to be anywhere between 20/70 and 20/10 within the first 24 hours. As with any other surgical procedure, after treatment the tissue treated may swell as it is healing.

No, but there is an average pressure. For adults that number is around 16, but there are "normal" eyes with pressure as low as 10 and as high as 23. A better question to ask is, "Is my eye pressure at a safe level?" Only your doctor can answer that.

The doctor only checks for your ability to read an eye chart. If you can't, he will refer you to an Eye Doctor for further evaluation. However, your family doctor does not check for glaucoma, the leading cause of blindness in the United States. In addition, your family doctor most likely does not thoroughly examine the internal structures of your eye.

In the normal eye, light is bent (refracted) by the curve of the cornea and lens to focus clearly on the retina. The eye works like a camera. Light rays pass through the lens (like the cornea and natural lens in the eye) and are focused on the film (like the retina in the eye).

Some people will see quite well by the next morning. Even with no problems some people will need several weeks of healing for their vision to return to normal.

Employers must establish and implement a written eye and face protection program with worksite-specific procedures and elements for required eye and face protective equipment use. The provisions of the program include procedures for selection, medical evaluation, fit testing, training, use and care of eye and face protection.

Carrots and broccoli, dark, leafy green vegetables and sweet potatoes, are good sources of vitamin A. Research conducted at the Emory Eye Center has shown that IRBP, a protein that transports vitamin A within the retina, is essential for vision. IRBP may be responsible for genetic retinal diseases and for a serious disorder in which the body?s own immune system attacks the eye.

Driving laws vary from state to state and from country to country. In the State of Florida, drivers must have at least 20/40 vision in both eyes, with or without corrective lenses. If vision is 20/200 or worse in one eye, drivers must have 20/40 vision or better in the other eye. A doctor's referral may be required. For most people, diagnosis of cancer creates emotional distress. Fear of treatment and fear of the future can produce apprehension, anxiety, confusion and depression.

The Snellen Chart, which is the eye chart with the large “E” that most patients are familiar and which was developed in the 1800’s, measures distance vision only. The PRIO tester, a much newer medical device, simulates a computer screen and measures the near power needed to work at the computer.

The essence of the Bates method is not about exercises. It is about relearning correct vision habits. If a person does "eye exercises," but fails to integrate proper vision habits into all of their activities, he/she will probably not succeed. The key writings of Dr Bates do not mention anything about eye exercises. At best, exercises are an extremely inefficient way to improve sight. Note that people who have perfect sight do not do eye exercises.

While LASIK surgery is an effective means of improving your vision, not everyone who undergoes the procedure will experience 20/20 vision. Studies have shown that, on average, more than 90 percent of patients who receive conventional LASIK achieve 20/40 vision or better. These patients would be able to pass the eye exam portion of a driving test in most states without glasses. For many people, this itself makes LASIK a worthwhile investment in their vision.

You should have a stable prescription that hasn’t changed by more than 0.5 dioptres in the past 12 months. You will be at least 18 and normally over 21 years of age. Most candidates will have prescriptions between +5DS and -10DS; patients with mild or moderate prescriptions have generally better results than those with high refractive errors. You should not have any medical condition or be taking any medication that will affect healing. You mustn’t be pregnant or nursing.
