First you'd need know if the game is mod protected: Playstation Copy Protection List Console Gaming World - Protected PSX Games In some rare cases you may download a mod protected game that's not in .bin format. For those you'd need to burn the game to disc using the guide for PSX games posted earlier. Then you'd use CDRWIN to extract a .bin file to your HD. From there continue as normal. Note: This process can also be used to patch PSX PAL games to NTSC and vice versa with PPFomatic.

After I burn a game, even though I have a modchip installed it won't let me play it, like there is another form of copyright protection. I'm sad to say thats true. Some game developers have gotten wise to the whole backup scene, and have found ways to prevent it from happening. The good news is there are often patches that remove the copyright protection, you just have to look for them. The games that I know this to be the case for are MediEvil and Psychic Detective.

If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Maxell High Grade (DVD+R's). The PS2 laser is picky, these are the only three types of media you should trust for maximum reliability and compatibility with your PS2. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc. If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's.

A: You need to own a copy of Dink Smallwood on CD (available from RTSoft at www.rtsoft.com). There is a folder on your DINK CD called "develop". Copy everything from this folder into your main Dink directory. That's it! The map editor is called DINKEDIT.EXE. A: Well, after making sure you copied the development folder off your CD into your main Dink directory, you need to make a subdirectory for your D-Mod. Under your main Dink directory, make a folder (directory) to store your D-Mod files. For instance, my main Dink directory is C:\DINK\ so I made a folder under this called SCAROFD and ended up with C:\DINK\SCAROFD\ to begin my Scar of David D-Mod.

A: When I wanted to put pictures of Dink's Doppelganger on my web site, I tried and tried to make it work but I couldn't. Finally, I found an EASY (and probably the best) way to do it. While playing the game (or while in the map editor) get to the screen you want to capture. Then, simply hit the <print-screen> key on your keyboard. A: If you have WinZip, I believe the task is easier. There is also a tool for winzip to make self-extracting EXE's out of a ZIP file. Note: I use Alcohol 120% as my backup program for ripping scratched originals. DVD Decrypter can be picky with scratched discs, even when set to ignore read errors. Alcohol has ripped some horribly scratched games for me. At times I've let it run six to eight hours to get a usable image. This will put undue strain on your burner and not recommended. If your original game is too scratched to rip, cut your losses and find a download for it.

A: This kind of depends on your personal talent, and how dedicated you want to be in learning how. Dink-C might carry over the same basic style as the C programming language, but it's very different and much easier. It's more of a scripting language than a programming language. Having programming experience is a big plus, especially if it's in C, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary if you read through TUT1.

There actually isn't any installation procedure for pSX. All you need to do is extract the emulator with a RAR compatible utility (WinRAR), place the BIOS (check BIOS section below for details) in the bios directory, and run psxfin.exe.

No there is no way to boot PSX isos off an IDE HD with HD Loader/Advance currently. It is possible to boot PSX backups off a USB HD with USB Extreme. USB Extreme is worthless outside of this ability, the load times are similar to play a game off disc, and there are massive compatibility issues.
