The Paradise South Steering Committee directs and oversees the administration of the project and funding, implements the Strategic Plan, and sets priorities and direction of the program. The steering committee includes Paradise South Partners from both public and private organizations, businesses, as well as area residents, who all are committed to the goals and objectives stated in the strategy.

The U.S. Attorney must work closely with city, State, and Federal officials, as well as members of the community. Steering Committee meetings are scheduled for the 3 rd Monday of the month, 6:00 pm at the A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven.

The Steering Committee ("SC") was established in 1997 by the people involved with the Purdue Initiative. The Steering Committee's goal was to address the issue of educational standards in Aromatherapy in the United States. The Steering Committee consisted of unpaid volunteers working on projects in the member's spare time. The first steering committee meeting was held at Synergia in Boston, in October 1997.

Weed and Seed is foremost a strategy—rather than a grant program—that aims to prevent, control, and reduce violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity in targeted high-crime neighborhoods across the country. Weed and Seed sites range in size from several neighborhood blocks to 15 square miles.

The CT Steering Committee is composed of large-lot landowners within the Trail corridor, municipal and state representatives, land trusts, regional planning agencies, trail-users groups and other trail interests. The Steering Committee is responsible for providing input and guidance to the National Park Service on the development of the Study products. Participation on the steering committee, which meets quarterly, is open to those with an interest or stake in the trail.

The Technical Steering Committee consists of the chairs of all the HL7 Technical Committees and Special Interest Groups. Its primary function is to coordinate the work of the Technical Committees.Return to Outline

The Steering Committee requested final examinations from all educators within the field of Aromatherapy with a view to determining whether a common body of knowledge existed and, if so, creating the exam along with grading guidelines for National standards.

Operation Weed & Seed is a multi-agency strategy that "weeds" out violent crime, gang activity, drug use, and drug trafficking, in targeted high crime neighborhoods and "seeds" the target area by restoring these neighborhoods through social and economic revitalization. The "Mesquite Street Neighborhood" has been designated as a Weed & Seed site by the United States Department of Justice. The Weed & Seed boundaries are Lohman Avenue, Madrid Street, Solano Avenue, and Main Street.

The Steering Committee is comprised of 20 community leaders from various organizations committed to securing funding, creating alliances and developing and implementing community ideas that center around The Partnership's mission of reducing youth gun violence.

The Discovery Farms Program is governed by a steering committee representing different farm and environmental organizations. The purpose of the steering committee is to advise ODOT on local issues, to ensure that local concerns are represented and considered in the decision making process, and to facilitate consensus building, information sharing, and project progress.

The strategy involves a two-pronged approach: law enforcement agencies and prosecutors cooperate in "weeding out" criminals who participate in violent crime and drug abuse, attempting to prevent their return to the targeted area; and "seeding" brings human services to the area, encompassing prevention, intervention, treatment, and neighborhood revitalization. A community-orientated policing component bridges weeding and seeding strategies.

Weed and Seed is a strategy rather than a grant program. Interested communities are eligible to apply for funding from CCDO, based on availability of funds that are awarded on a competitive basis. Promoting the long-term health and resilience of the community, however, is the true goal of Weed and Seed, so sustainability without federal funds must be a key part of a site's structure.

Individual Weed and Seed sites track their progress on a regular basis. A national Weed and Seed evaluation, which looked at eight sites in detail, was completed in 1999. MCRUD Steering Committee meetings are open to the public and we always welcome new members. As stated above, our meetings are open to members of the alcohol beverage industry. However, we will not accept representatives of the alcohol beverage industry as voting members of the state wide Steering Committee. (Please see our written policy on this issue.) Meetings are typically held in Lansing, but sometimes will be held in other communities.

The committee should be made up of equal parts of community-based residents/organizations and local decisionmakers. A minimum of 25 percent of the community-based component must be community residents not serving in an official capacity, and the balance should be representatives of community-based (including faith-based) organizations who may or may not live in the community.
