The SAT is a measure of the critical thinking, mathematical and writing skills you will need for academic success in college. The SAT assesses how well you analyze and solve problems -- skills you learned in school that you will need in college. Created in 1926 for the College Entrance Examination Board, various forms of it have been administered to millions of eleventh and twelfth graders applying for admission to American universities.

We don't recommend one test (SAT or ACT) over the other. Both tests are acceptable for purposes of the CTY Talent Search in that both tests measure learned abilities. The scores needed on either the SAT or ACT to qualify for Summer Programs or Distance Education have been set such that neither test provides an advantage or disadvantage.

Students are not required to take the ACT or SAT, however if they have not taken either one within two years of applying for admission they will be required to take the COMPASS test. These scores are used to place students in math and English courses. The COMPASS test is administered on campus for a cost of $10. Yes, international students follow the same admissions requirements as domestic students.

Not every student should take the ACT or the SAT, but these tests have a long track record as good measures of academic talent. MATS uses these challenging tests because they are often more appropriate for academically talented students than standardized tests designed for their age group. In fact, between a quarter and a third of these students score as well as or better than the average college-bound high school senior.

The Scholastic Assessment Test or SAT I is an aptitude reasoning test designed to predict academic success in college. The test has recently been changed to include a more substantial math section, verbal section (now called critical reading) and a brand-new writing section. The scoring for each section will remain consistent with the 0-800 range of the old SAT; the writing section will add a third score.

CTD does not recommend one test over the other, since research has shown that the majority of students have comparable scores on the two tests. Students can qualify for any of CTD's educational programs, the CTD Award Ceremony and other special programs for gifted students with either SAT or ACT scores.

Taking the SAT Test is usually not necessary, however, for some universities it is a requirement for a scholarship. Should this be the case, IDEA will inform you in due time.

With the new SAT making its debut in Spring 2005, students who've been out of school for even a year may find their scores outdated. Luckily, many undergraduate institutions do not require adult learners to report SAT scores, so you can avoid another Saturday morning in a sweaty high school gym. However, most professional degrees do require the corresponding standardized test (like the GRE or GMAT), so if you haven't taken those, do so.

Yes. Standardized test scores are an important part of your application for admission, but they are only one part of your application. Each major has established requirements. For example, the School of Business and Engineering place more of an emphasis on the math SAT than most of the majors in the School of Arts and Sciences. It is always a good idea to prepare for standardized tests. Before deciding what type of preparation is best, students should do some self-examination. Some self-directed students do very well by buying a book of practice tests and taking them on their own. Other students need the enforced discipline of attending a class. While it has been proven that preparation and familiarity with standardized tests do improve students' scores, one method of preparation is not necessarily better than another.

Usually, students take the SAT in the spring of their junior in high school and, if they choose, again in the fall of their senior year. Students that choose to take the Subject Tests often take them at the end of their junior year or at the beginning of their senior year. Since Subject Tests are directly related to specific subjects, it is a good idea to take a Subject Test as soon after completing its related high school course as possible.

SAT scores are used by the college admissions board to determine the general academic level of the student. The SAT II tests are designed to measure academic level within a specific subject and a student???s ability to apply that knowledge. The SAT II tests are one-hour tests, primarily consisting of multiple-choice questions.

SAT is the most basic college admission test for most colleges in the USA. Students usually take the test at 10th or early 11th grade in order to apply for college admissions. There are many talent search programs in the US, such as Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP), to identify the kids with more advanced academic skills than their peers. Under these programs, students will take the SAT tests at 7th grade.

You may sit for an IELTS test here in Hamilton on arrival. If your application for the degree programme is approved, we would issue you with a letter of offer conditional on you passing the IELTS test. Once you passed the test, you would then enter the University directly. The University of Waikato Language Institute offers a wide range of English language classes, from beginning level, through to preparing students to sit for the IELTS test.

Parents or students can sign-up by mail or on the official web site www.collegeboard.com There are deadlines and late fees and waivers are available if you cannot afford the test. The PSAT/NMSQT can only be registered for at your local high school up until the day of the test if there is room.

The Subject Test in Writing is no longer offered because the SAT Reasoning Test now includes its own writing portion. The Subject Test was last offered in January 2005.

For a few reasons. First, we take a holistic approach to the review of the student application. We want applicants to the College to know that three hours on a Saturday or Sunday morning doesn't determine whether or not you are going to contribute to our community. Second, testing is required, but the tests we require allow students to choose the two subjects that highlight their strengths if they choose to submit SAT Subject Tests, or the more comprehensive ACT.

Yes. The new SAT still measures the kind of reasoning skills needed for college by assessing how students apply what they have learned in school. Colleges use the SAT as a common yardstick that complements a student's high school record in a consistent way.

Juniors are encourage to take the SAT I in January or March. Students are advised to take SAT II's in May or June after completing classes in SAT II subject areas. Depending on the results, students may retake SAT I's and II's.
