To declare a major, you must: fulfill the foreign language proficiency requirement (2 years of high school or 2 semesters of college foreign language); Business students must have declared a major before taking upper-division business courses, so most students declare a major during their second year. Basically, our MSci degrees require 5 years of effort, one year of which is an assessed and salaried Industrial Placement. On the other hand, our BSc degrees require 4 years of study, do not have an Industrial Placement, and are awarded on a lower course credit total. The MSci is the recommended option for students who wish to pursue a professional career in the practice of chemistry in industry or the public sector.

Theoretically one only has an accredited degree if it was earned after accreditation. For many practical purposes, however, it is unlikely that an employer will say, for instance, "Did you earn your degree from the Graduate School of America before or after November 17, 1997?" Once a school has been accredited, it is likely (but not certain) that all its degrees will be regarded as accredited, whenever earned.

In this scenario, the student earns a degree from a school that is accredited by an unrecognized agency, and later the agency is recognized by the Department of Education. This is such a rare situation, we really don't know if there is a precedent. Common sense suggests that if the school or degree was accredited all along, and if the only change is that the accreditor becomes recognized, then the student would have a degree with recognized accreditation.

The answer to this question varies from student to student. It all depends on how many credits you transfer into your degree program and the pace of study you choose. Our classes are offered in both 8- and 16-week semesters, so you can choose the pace that best meets your needs. For example, a student who successfully completes 2 courses every 8 weeks for a year can earn 36 credit hours in a year, but a student who takes the same courses over 16 weeks will earn 18 credit hours.

It depends on you and how much time you have available to commit to your education each week. Our experience indicates that if you matriculate (enroll) with about 45 credits, you can finish your associate degree (60 semester credits) in less than a year. If you matriculate with about 90 credits, you can finish your bachelor’s degree (120 semester credits) in 1-2 years. Graduations occur every two months.
