Weed and Seed is foremost a strategy—rather than a grant program—that aims to prevent, control, and reduce violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity in targeted high-crime neighborhoods across the country. Weed and Seed sites range in size from several neighborhood blocks to 15 square miles.

Operation Weed & Seed is a multi-agency strategy that "weeds" out violent crime, gang activity, drug use, and drug trafficking, in targeted high crime neighborhoods and "seeds" the target area by restoring these neighborhoods through social and economic revitalization. The "Mesquite Street Neighborhood" has been designated as a Weed & Seed site by the United States Department of Justice. The Weed & Seed boundaries are Lohman Avenue, Madrid Street, Solano Avenue, and Main Street.

WipeOut® Total Weed & Grass Killer - Has no soil activity and will breakdown very quickly. There are no replanting restrictions. Lawn WeedOut® - Has some soil activity and takes about two to three weeks to breakdown. Lawn seed should not be planted for 3-4 weeks after using Lawn WeedOut®.
