All of our open water swim triathlons utilize wave starts. Waves are organized by event category (Age Groups, Clydesdale, Elite, etc.). Wave start information will be a part of the official event information that is posted during event week. NOTE: The loan exception to this rule is the Set Up Events Championship Invitational Triathlon in October - where all men start in one wave and all women start in one wave.

The "Launch Full-screen" option will ensure that Desktop Weather launches in a larger window. To reach this option, click on SETTINGS in the upper right-hand corner of the program window. The biggest difference between swimming in open water and training in a pool is that there are no lane lines! And there is no side to hang on to if you get tired. Some open water courses are out-and-back, and others look more like a loop. Either way, the course is marked with buoys. It is important to sight (look up and see where you are) every so often so you swim fairly straight.

Swim diapers are unlikely to prevent diarrhea (which may contain germs) from leaking into the pool. Even though diapers or swim pants may hold in some feces, they are not leak proof and can still contaminate the pool water. Open swim hours are generally 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. During the Piney Creek "Heat" swim season (from approximately the beginning of the pool season until the third week in July), open swim hours are adjusted for swim team practice and swim meets hosted at the Piney Creek pool. Members are invited and welcome on the pool deck as well as in the baby pool during swim practice (9:00 AM to 12:00 noon weekdays); however, because the pool is full during swim practice, members are not permitted in the main pool.
