The side effect we see most, although not often is folliculitis. This occurs after a transplant begins to grow and presents itself as ingrown hairs. Every individual has a unique combination of hair loss and existing hair type so it is impossible to say that everyone will need such and such a number of grafts and this many sessions, because it varies. For example, a patient who has a medium balding area (type 5) but very fine hair may need just as many grafts transplanted as someone who has a larger balding area (type 6) but has thick, course hair.

The wait for suitable donor organs to become available may be a year or longer. The average waiting time on the list is 18 months. After a patient has been accepted as a suitable candidate for lung transplantation, they will typically be contacted by a transplant coordinator.
