The Chili team from Yolo County that receives the highest number of votes in the ICS judging will receive the title of the Best Yolo County Chili along with the bragging rights for the year.

Chili is a Jeopardy monster. Chili plays Jeopardy nearly every time the RMS does, and Chili has all the answers. All of Chili's answers are quick, witty, concise... and wrong. Chili's turn-ons include guns, ammo, Eddie Boyd's wife, sex, women, and anything sharp and pointy. Chili's turn-offs include being the last one to answer, and actually winning at Jeopardy. Russ keeps making references to "Chris" and asking Chris to put this up or take things down. Usually he is talking about a website.

Yes. As of July 22, 2007, four cases of botulism have been reported to CDC. All four persons (2 cases in Indiana and 2 cases in Texas) consumed Castleberry's brand Hot Dog Chili Sauce the day before the illness began. Botulinum toxin was identified in leftover chili sauce collected from a patient's home. Botulinum toxin was also identified in unopened cans of chili sauce.

FDA and USDA-FSIS identified a problem with the canning process. The problem means it is possible that spores of the germ Clostridium botulinum were not killed during canning, so could grow and produced toxin. Many products contaminated with botulinum toxin do not taste or look any different than normal. Some taste bad because they contain other contaminants. Yes, most cases of botulism are caused by improperly prepared home-canned foods or traditional Alaskan Native foods.

Competition chili is defined as a bowl of Texas Red. It is made up of meat and sauce with spices. Competition chili has no beans or fillers. It must be prepared at the cook-off site (usually on a camp stove). Meat can be cut before hand; either ground or chopped, but cannot be marinated or smoked prior to the event. You must be a member of ICS to cook competition chili. We have copies of the ICS rules on chili.

Green chili or chili verde in competition is similar to ICS red chili, except, guess what, it's green. Also the meat is either pork or chicken, not beef. The regular ICS rules apply: no beans or fillers and must be cooked at the cook-off site. The winner of the ICS green chili competition is qualified to cook in the green chili semi-finals at the World Cook-off. Green chili cooking begins at 11 a.m. with turn-in of chili for judging at 2 p.m.

What are Capsicum peppers called? Is it CHILE or CHILI, or even CHILLI or CHILLIE ? It depends of where you are in the world. Nowadays, the Capsicum pepper is referred to by most people as the CHILE, where as the meal made from meat and chile peppers is referred to as a CHILI. Even so, CHILE PEPPER can appear in the local dialects as something else.

People's Choice chili is chili that is judged only by the people and not included in the ICS judging. People's Choice chili must contain beans, and is usually made prior to the event. The chili with the most votes of the people becomes the winner (so if you have the most chili and friends at the cook-off, you might get the most votes!) People's Choice chili should be ready to serve by 11 a.m. ballots will be counted at 3:30 PM. Judging for People's Choice Restaurant will be separate.

You can cook more than one type. You can cook ICS red and green (cook at the cook-off), People's Choice (the one with beans), if you are from Yolo County the Yolo County Chili, and you can also do salsa. All this can be done from one booth.

Hollywood Hogan used the song "Voodoo Child" as his theme song in WCW. The song is on Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland album. There's also a song on the same album called "Voodoo Chile" which is a 18 minute jam session. The songs are both very different and have no connection between each other. Anyway, on a WCW Thunder Mike Tenay confused the songs and announced Hogan's song as "Voodoo Chili". The incident became a joke in the wrestling world and didn't stop for a long while.

The first Chili Cook-Off was held back in 1996. It was all started by the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Lansing State Journal and a host of community volunteers, as part of the "Be a Tourist in Your Own Town" event. In 1997, the Lansing Board of Water and Light became the major sponsor. Since then the Cook-Off has grown every year to become a major downtown event every summer.

Being an American and living in England I have to admit I've struggled with this question as much as anyone. I believe that the answer is 'it just depends on what part of the world you're in'; however, in my research I've found a LOT of debate and text devoted to the subject. Obviously, the popular British spelling is "Chilli" and "Chili" is the spelling used widely in the USA and Canada. "Chile" is the Mexican-Spanish term for Capsicums.
