Why Use an LED instead of an incandescent bulb?
An incandescent bulb is highly inefficient and requires 10 times more energy than an LED. The capacitor in NightStar can only power a filament light bulb for a few seconds. By comparison, the energy stored in a battery is great enough to power inefficient devices for several hours. However, when a battery's energy is depleted, it either has to be discarded or recharged. Rechargeable batteries require external and often costly charging devices.
Related QuestionsNightstar Flashlight Facts @ Survival Unlimited.com - Emerge...incandescent bulb is highly inefficient and requires significantly more energy than an LED. The capacitor in OemgaLite can only power a filament light bulb for several seconds but can power an LED for several minutes. An incandescent bulb also has a lifetime of approximately 500 hours and is extremely fragile. Quite frequently, a bulb will break before it burns out. By comparison, the LED used in OmegaLite will operate for more than 50,000 hours and is nearly unbreakable.Related Questions

Related QuestionsWHY ARE LED'S USED INSTEAD OF INCANDESCENT LIGHTS?
Proteus FAQLight emitting diodes--LED's--are state of the art solid state devices that convert small amounts of electrical energy into light. They can be switched on and off much faster than incandescent lights, producing the crisp strobe-like pulses which have been shown to be most effective at inducing patterns of brainwave activity. They also create very pure colors--again an important factor in the alteration of consciousness and brainwave activity.
Related QuestionsWhy does an incandescent bulb darken over the life of the lamp?
M&M Lighting - Frequently Asked QuestionsDuring use, tungsten from the filament evaporates into the gas inside the light bulb. When the tungsten comes in contact with a cool surface it will condense. Often, with incandescent products, the tungsten condenses on the bulb wall, eventually accumulating, and causing darkening of the bulb. Halogen light bulbs eliminate the bulb darkening because halogen light bulbs have a special gas inside their bulb containing halogens.

Related QuestionsWhat is the difference between a Halogen and Incandescent bulb?
Bulb & BatteryIncandescent bulbs have a carbon filament which darkens the glass envelope over time, last a few hundred hours and produce a warmer (more yellow) light. Halogen bulbs use a tungsten filament which does not darken the walls of the quartz/glass envelope because of the halogen process, lasts much longer, has a cooler (more blue) light and is exceptionally hot when turned on. Because these bulbs burn at such high temperatures we recommend they not be touched with your bare fingers.
Related QuestionsWhy does a halogen light bulb last longer than a regular incandescent bulb?
GE Consumer & Industrial Lighting: Ask Us: FAQs - Other Ligh...Both regular incandescent bulbs and halogen bulbs create light by heating a filament (made of tungsten) inside the bulb; the heat makes the filament white-hot, producing the light that you see. Usually, the bulb burns out when the filament wears out. The filament on a regular incandescent bulb wears out over time because the tungsten on the filament evaporates and is redeposited on the bulb's glass.
Related QuestionsWhat is the difference between LED's and Incandescent Bulbs?
Frequently Asked QuestionsFor portable traffic light systems, LED technology offers much greater reliability and lower power consumption than Incandescent lamps. Typically LED's use 1/10th of the power, allowing the unit to run 10 times as long on the same battery charge. LEDs are solid state devices that do not have filaments to burn out or break. LEDs are very mechanically shock resistant. Signals made from LEDs include many individual lamps. If one lamp fails, the Signal can still function.

Related QuestionsWhy should I use LEDs instead of neon or colored incandescent lights?
LEDs generally have an MTBF (mean time between failures) of 100,000+ hours, which means you can run them for 10+ years before they fail LEDs withstand shock, vibration, frequent switching and temperature extremes that rapidly incapacitate fragile neon tubes LEDs are significantly more energy-efficient than neon tubes, so you can run them longer using the same power If multi-color LEDs are used, the color can be instantly changed..
Related QuestionsWhat is an LED 'bulb' and why would I need one?
Low voltage electrics for marine, motorhome and caravan useFirstly, LED stands for light emitting diode. A diode is an electronic component that is usually used in the same way that a one way valve is used in a water pipe but these diodes have other properties - notably that they emit light. Unlike incandescent filament type bulbs, the light isn't created by a filament getting hot so no heat is created and no energy is wasted. Consequently, the energy consumption of a single LED is tiny but so is the light output and the maximum voltage it can take.
Related QuestionsHow bright are LED bulb replacements?
Low voltage electrics for marine, motorhome and caravan useThis is the crux question as it is pointless replacing your incandescent bulbs with numerically more LEDs resulting in an identical electrical consumption. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer because; LED's emit light in only one direction. You have to be aware of which that direction is with respect to the mounting position, the reflector and the output direction of the light unit that you are considering putting one in.

NTech Industries: GreenSeeker Frequently Asked Questions, ch...Several problems exist when using the sun as a light source. The sun's intensity is affected by sun angle, cloudiness, haziness, etc., conditions which can cause inconsistent NDVI measurements. NTech developed an active sensor that generates its own illumination source to measure NDVI. In fact, the sensors function in nearly any condition including darkness, dramatically extending the application period.

Related QuestionsHow does an incandescent light bulb work?
Frequently Asked QuestionsThe wire inside a light bulb is called a filament. It is made of tungsten, a metal that stays solid at very high temperatures. Electricity flows through the tungsten filament, causing it to heat up and glow. The glow gives off light. Inside a light bulb is a vacuum – in other words, all the air has been removed from inside the glass bulb. (If there were air inside, the wire would burn up.)

Related QuestionsWhy is Luxeon more energy saving compare to incandescent Bulb or Fluorescent Lamp?
luxeon, super bright LED, luxeon bulb, led bulbs, LEDs lamp,...Incandescent Bulb or Filament Bulb as its normally known was invented by Thomas Edison. It's not energy efficient. For example, 100 Watt of energy. You put it into a normal Incandescent Bulb or Filament Bulb. Out of that 100 Watt of energy you put into the bulb, 80% (or 80 Watt) is used to heat up the tungsten filament and 20% (or 20 Watt) is used to produce the light. This means only 20% is used to produce light and 80% wasted as heat.
