Chris Quinlan Artist uses only quality oils and acrylics on stretched canvas. Sometimes Oil pastels are used but only on paper. There are no Oil pastels in the Galleries as of yet. Oil pastels and other mediums can be requested in commissioned artwork. Chris Quinlan Artist does not sell prints, we only sell original artwork. Each painting purchased is a unique piece.

Artwork can vary by printing method, so look at the information links for the specific product you need to order. Generally, we can accept most types of professional graphics files. Generally, the file formats used are vector type files, also known as "draw" files.

The pencil on white paper is just that....pencil, (usually HB), on heavyweight, acid-free white drawing paper. The pen & ink on white paper is closest in style to my comics work, and is done on heavyweight, smooth bristol board, using not only pen & ink, but a good deal of brush & ink, too, (these are penciled initially, but once the ink work has been done, the pencil is erased).

I work usually with graphite pencil, acrylics (brushed and airbrushed), and more recently I work also in digital media. This is due to the fact that my type of work is commercial, where faster results are needed. However, I like to paint a lot with oils whenever possible. Once in a while I use pastels too.

Always start with a light or medium formula when you try a new brand. Light/medium/dark varies considerably from product to product. In general, the department store brand dark is heavier than the drugstore brand dark. And don't forget that two applications of a light or medium formula may give you better results than one application of dark.

For a variety of reasons, we use acrylic paint and gesso on paper, wood, and stretched canvas. We've noticed more and more contemporary artists are utilizing acrylics for good reason- they can be used for a wide range of techniques from thin washes like watercolor to layered, thick textures similar to oils. They quickly dry and unlike oils, are low odor and easily thin and clean with water.

One of the brilliant aspects to these growing systems is their lack of reliance on a large amount growing medium. The only media you may need is a small root starter cube which can be then transplanted into a second, larger cube or into a plastic net cup. the roots will grow freely down into the nutrient and oxygen rich environment.

Susan and I use mineral spirits to clean our brushes and to thin our paint down a bit for initial washes, but just use the paint straight without any medium for the rest of the painting. The way I get such thick brushwork simply has to do with laying out lots of paint and really loading up my brush. I will even mix up large piles of the various colors I'm using in a painting with my palette knife so I will have plenty of paint to work thickly with.

Answer: HEPES and other organic buffers can be used effectively with many cell lines (see Shipman, C. (1969) Proc. Soc. Exp. Biol. Med. 130: 305). Yup. I draw it with my trusty blue pencil (69 cents at your local Loomis & Toles) and ink it with a fineliner. For Episodes 2 & 3 I used a kid's watercolour set for shading. Cheap and fairly effective. For Episodes 1 (the revamp) 4 & 5, I scanned the comic unshaded, and shaded it in Painter Classic (a very nice little program I got with my wacom tablet). Later I moved on to Painter 8, which has a much more finished look than PC.

As a general rule of thumb the finest hair is used for watercolour: Kolinsky Sable being the ultimate, followed by Pure Red Sable, Squirrel etc. At the moment, there are some excellent Nylon fibres which imitate Sable thus keeping costs low. It's not just about 'snap & spring' which are familiar terms but how the brush strokes the paper. Sable has the advantage of holding a huge quantity of liquid and 'flows' when pressed onto the paper.

I am able to use a couple of mediums, starting with pencils, inks, markers, acrylics, gouache, watercolour, Colour pencils, sometimes I use pastels, and of course my forte is Digital art, such as Photoshop painted, Vector graphics with Corel or freehand.

I have used both medium format and 35mm to cover weddings. I now prefer and use 35mm (digital) cameras. They are smaller, lighter and quicker.

We accept many types of art files. The ideal file formats are: .ai (Adobe Illustrator),.pdf (Adobe Acrobat), .eps, .psd (Adobe Photoshop), .tiff. We also accept .jpeg.

To create the illusion of continuous tones when printed, images are broken down into a series of dots. This process is called halftoning. Varying the sizes of the dots in a halftone screen creates the optical illusion of variations of gray or continuous color in the image. Now granted, we really know what we're doing and can make some incredible prints using halftones...but we recommend that you avoid them unless you REALLY need them in your print.

I started etching on windshields and air wings this year and really enjoy it. In Springfield, I had a customer who wanted an angel etched with an image of an eagle on her dress and the eagle's wings came up to become the angel's wings. I sketched what the customer described and when approved, etched it on the windshield. It was awesome! The customer has a one-of-a-kind custom job and I got the chance to create in yet another way.

We accept only vector format files. If you have your design artwork already prepared, it can be sent to us via one of the following methods. Email attachment: as a tif, ai, eps, wmf, cdr, jpg, gif, . Please convert all fonts used in your artwork to either shapes, curves, outlines etc..., also please limit the colors within this color chart, for the jpg and gif (not vector format) format, a modification fee of $10 will be added to the order to convert it to vector format.

You need the sharpest image of your company logo on the glossiest paper stock that you've got. This is typically called "camera ready art". We can make editing changes to your artwork if you need help for a nominal charge. Although we have completed designs from faxes and even business cards, the best quality of art that you can supply us with makes our job a heck of a lot easier.

Remember that the better the original art, the better chance of getting a precise logo reproduction. However, we can work from any artwork such as a business card, letterhead, brochure, electronic art, or even a decent hand sketch which our artist can redraw.
