You should treat your dog with FRONTLINE® every month to obtain satisfactory protection. If your dog is subjected to high risks of infestation, you may treat it once every three weeks. If you see fleas on your dog after it has been treated, they've been picked up from the environment after FRONTLINE was applied and they'll be killed.

People who bushwalk in tick infested areas need to use an insect repellent, particularly one containing the chemical DEET, and this should be applied regularly to clothing. Wearing light coloured clothing is useful as ticks can be more easily spotted. Bushland locations which are highly tick infested should be avoided. (BACK)

Because of their instinctive behaviour, cats are more easily infested by fleas than dogs. Hence, we recommend that you treat your cat once every 6 weeks.

Treating yourself for head lice when you (or your children) don't have lice isn't a good idea. Treat only when the presence of head lice has been confirmed. A wet combing aid will help determine whether you have a problem that needs treatment. Few treatments designed to kill head lice are effective at preventing an infestation. That's because after application, you're directed to completely wash the treatment from the hair.

Keep the vines well fed and watered and evenly spaced. Be sure to keep the area free of weeds. Avoid watering the plants late in the day, fungal and mildew growth needs moisture and darkness. Early watering allows the vines to dry off for the night. Powdery mildew will appear beneath the leaves - Trim off infested parts and dispose of in the trash, away from the vines (do not put in a compost pile).

You should follow, and make your children follow, good basic hygiene by always washing their hands with soap and hot water after using the bathroom and just before eating. However, in English Cocker Spaniels, prcd-PRA manifests even later, not until usually a dog is at least 8 years old.

First, make sure it is a tick and not a small growth. Wet down the fur around the tick and look close to the skin, you should be able to see the tick's legs. Once you have positively identified the tick, it is time to remove it. Grasp the tick with tweezers, as close to the skin as possible, and gently pull backwards until it comes free of the skin. Sometimes all or part of the tick's head will remain embedded in the skin.

Your veterinarian will be the best person to determine your dog's diet, as he/she best knows its needs. Ask them about treats. They can probably help you find a restricted calorie treat for your dog.

Ehrlichiosis: Doxycycline*** (a semisynthetic tetracycline) at 10 mg/kg of dog's weight (2.2 pounds = 1 kg), twice per day given 12 hours apart for 6 weeks or longer. Sometimes more than one course of therapy is necessary. Doxycycline should not be given with food (milk or yogurt) or additives containing calcium because the calcium will interfere with the absorption of the antibiotic.

Foods should be kept in sealed containers and areas where food is stored kept free of spillage or crumbs. Eliminate old lumber, logs and stumps from around your property and do not store firewood inside the building. In the case of new construction, only properly treated lumber should be used.
