No. We can sometimes transport injured, sick, abandoned or displaced wildlife and animals in need of help to the proper facility, but we do charge a fee. We are unable to trap cats for you and we do not accept feral cats into our adoption program.

We do our very best to provide necessary veterinary care for any animal that is sick or injured upon arrival. We rely on our local veterinarians to recommend treatment.

We regularly medicate and care for sick and injured animals in our Shelter. We ask people to volunteer to provide foster homes for sick/injured animals while they are recuperating. Sick and injured animals recover more quickly and thoroughly when they are in a home and not suffering additional stress in the confines of a cage or kennel at the Shelter. If the animal appears to be sick, it may have rabies. Avoid contact with the animal and call the Dutchess County Department of Health for guidance, at (845) 486-3400. If the animal has suffered an injury that would make it hard for the animal to survive or take care of itself, volunteer wildlife rehabilitators will take the animal free of charge and care for it until it can be released back into the wild.

Be very careful with sick or injured animals and do not touch them if at all possible. Animal bites can be very serious and require extensive medical treatment. With unknown animals there is also a risk of being exposed to rabies. If the animal has on a collar with tags, and you can safely read the tags, try to contact the owner. If there are no tags, or if they cannot be read for any reason, you should contact animal control at 336-903-7688.

Often times, when people hear the term "animal rescue," or more specifically "dog rescue," they immediately think of search and rescue--that is, animals employed in the use of locating people lost in the wilderness or by some other peril, such as natural disaster. Animal rescue (dog rescue, cat rescue, horse rescue, etc.) is different. It is people rescuing animals from peril, such as threat of euthanasia by animal shelters and other at-risk situations.

All of the animals at PMMC were found stranded on the beaches, jetties or oil platforms along the coast that we serve. When we are notified of a stranded animal, we rescue it only if there is cause to do so. While it is quite normal for a pinniped to come out onto land and rest, it is not normal for them to do so in populated areas nor is it normal for them to allow humans anywhere near them.

If you find and injured animal, do not approach the animal, contact the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW)in Durango at (970)247-0855 give them the location of the animal and they will send a local Colorado Wildlife Officer to investigate. If you find an abandoned fawn/cub or elk calf, do not approach or attempt to touch or handle it. Chances are the mother is feeding or close by and has left the baby to rest.

Call the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care & Control immediately or the Police, who will call the County. For your safety and to prevent further injury to the animal, do not attempt to move it.

You can bring injured or orphaned wildlife to Valley Animal Hospital. Forever Wild, a local wildlife rehabilitation center, picks up the wildlife daily. Young birds that appear to be orphaned are probably best left alone. Its parent is nearby ensuring that it is safe.

During the 1999 New York City WNV infection outbreak, testing of crows, other birds, and horses identified the presence of WNV antibodies and/or WNV ribonucleic acid (RNA). WNV was isolated from one cat with neurological illness. In addition, dogs, many other species of wild birds, and many species of domestic birds (chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys), while not clinically ill, were tested and shown to be serologically positive for WNV antibodies, thereby demonstrating they had been infected.

Austin does have a wildlife rescue group, and it is made up of volunteers who take injured animals into their homes. The local organization does not have a sanctuary. WRR works with Austin Wildlife Rescue when an animal needs to go to a sanctuary for permanent care.

This isn't always easy. On the one hand, there's the reasonable view that nature should be allowed to take its course. On the other hand, a distressed animal in your yard may not be a "natural" situation--for example, it may have been injured by a neighborhood cat. And it's hard to let an animal suffer. If you decide to take action, there are limits to what you should do yourself, to avoid harming both the animal and you.

In Indiana, wildlife rehabilitators have necessary state and federal permits to house and care for sick or injured wild animals. For a list of licensed Wild Animal Rehabilitators in your area, contact the USDA Wildlife Services/IDNR Wildlife Conflicts Hotline at 1-800-893-4116, your local DNR district wildlife biologist, or the Division of Fish and Wildlife's central office at (317) 232-4080. No federal or state agencies will provide care for sick and injured animals.

A cluster of sick or dead animals in an area are not likely to indicate WNV infection, but may indicate other wildlife diseases of concern. If you find sick or dead wildlife, contact your closest state or federal wildlife agency that may want to investigate some of these incidents. Since many local health departments use dead bird reports to estimate WNV activity in an area, the wildlife agency may request that you contact your local health department to report a sick or dead bird also.

Animal Rescue Center is a 501c3 non-profit agency founded by Jennifer Gilson, Executive Director of Sonora Veterinary Hospital. Jennifer was moved by the suffering she witnessed at the county animal control facilities. She began Animal Rescue Center initially to help injured stray animals at Animal Care & Control that would otherwise have had no hope of rehabilitation.

All of Arizona R.E.S.C.U.E.'s animals are saved from the euthanasia list at the pound and are all adoptable. Arizona R.E.S.C.U.E. does not accept animals from the public.

Many of the animals are taken care of by volunteer foster parents, also some of R.E.S.C.U.E.'s dogs are housed in donated space by pet hotels, and most of R.E.S.C.U.E.'s cats stay at its donated Feline Care Center. R.E.S.C.U.E. used to have some animals in local Petsmarts, but they no longer do that because of their emphasis on finding a compatible home for all animals. R.E.S.C.U.E.

Every spring thousands of animals are born in the wild. With more and more suburban areas, young animals are increasingly born near humans and discovered without an adult animal nearby. Well-meaning people can upset the course of nature by taking young animals from their nests. Removing wildlife from its environment is prohibited by state regulations without proper handling permits. The apparent lack of an adult does not mean a young animal is alone.
