Frequently Asked Questions

Your hydrogeology field camp is 3 weeks long but I need 6 weeks of field camp. What can I do?

Hydrocamp: FAQ + tips + what to bring
Our own students at the University of Minnesota (UMN) also need 6 weeks of field camp to receive their Bachelor of Science degrees. We offer 2 to 3 field camps each year in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at UMN. Thus, our students take at least two of our three 3-week field camps before they graduate.

Do I have to be at field camp the whole 3 weeks?

Hydrocamp: FAQ + tips + what to bring
Yes in most cases unless you have a very good reason why you have to skip a day or arrive a day later or leave a day earlier (leaving earlier is particularly difficult as we are coming back from north-central Minnesota on the last day of the field camp).

Do I need to camp on the field?

Frequently Asked Questions
B2Osh was organized to enable friends camping together. The formation was the means of arriving together to accomplish this. If health or other reasons require a stay in a room, we will still welcome your participation, but we discourage people joining us for the formation flight and not camping with us. If partying with us is your prime motivation, we would prefer you consider "I don't want to fly the formation. Can I still join you?" above.
Related Questions

Can I hand in assignments late or even after the field camp is over?

Hydrocamp: FAQ + tips + what to bring
No, we are providing ample time to finish the assignments on time including whole write-up days in between field and lab days. There is also time during most evenings and sometimes even in the field (e.g., while you are waiting for some measurement). So there is no excuse for handing in material late.

a. What are magnetic field models and why do we need them?

Geomagnetism Frequently Asked Questions
Because the Earth's magnetic field is constantly changing, it is impossible to accurately predict what the field will be at any point in the very distant future. By constantly measuring the magnetic field, we can observe how the field is changing over a period of years. Using this information, it is possible to create a mathematical representation of the Earth's main magnetic field and how it is changing.

If I do not camp on the field must I still pay the camping fee to EAA?

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All planes parked in the camping area must pay the camping fee regardless of the presence of a tent. There is a separate parking area for planes not wishing to pay a camping fee. It is located on the opposite side of the airfield, far from all B2Osh activities. Pay the camping fee and stay with the group. Do not argue with EAA volunteers posting a notice on your plane to pay the fee. It reflects poorly on all of us.

Why do we need to send so many towels to camp?

Camp Yavneh - Frequently Asked Questions
Believe it or not, the kids can go through them. They use even more towels in a wet summer. The towels don’t have a chance to dry out so fast in the wet weather. If we knew that we would always have beautiful dry sunny weather we would recommend less towels, but it’s New England and the weather is unpredictable.
