While the common statement of "2D meets our needs" is often true, it has been proven time and time again that the use of 3D methodology for the vast majority of mechanical design tasks is much more efficient than using 2D methodology. Speed and Accuracy are the two major benefits for designing in 3D. Unlike drafting, the task of designing involves continuous changes, additions, and deletions of geometry.

I'm a junior orthopedic surgeon, planning a research project to evaluate the efficacy of a number of different cervical spine immobilization devices. As I expect you already know, when someone is involved in an accident we use certain methods to move them with the minimum amount of movement to their spine. For our online strategy games of the American Civil War and WWII, if we were to use small 3D images of the infantry, cavalry, artillery, tanks, mortars, etc, you would not be able to see the battlefield. If you zoom right in, and can see the 3D graphics, you can't see the battlefield.

Dimensions, means that you are cutting out a part with features all at the same depth. This is common for engraving, Laser cutting, plasma cutting, etc. The FlashCut DXF Import automates this very easily. Dimensions means you are cutting a part that has multiple flat features at varying depths. When it is being cut, the Z axis positions itself to a depth and the X and Y interpolate on that plane to cut the feature.

As you move through the spectrum from 2D to 2½D to 3D you can create more complex parts. There are different CAM software needs for each one. See a side by side comparison and explanation on the Software Overview page.

The logical grouping of some regions in EvE don't show the strategic value. A case from the demo map is that part of Querious is actually in Delve and has no connection to Querious. The Eve Strategic Map of Delve includes the Querious systems.
