The course book, a notebook, a pen or pencil, and a good mood with a little curiosity about what will happen in the classroom. We want you to be an active participant and to enjoy learning German.

In our Mediotheque and our computer lab you will find a lot of German study and exercise material which you can use. If you do not have time to use our facilities, you can borrow German tapes or texts and use them at home to improve your German.

On the first day of a two-day course, we will be in the classroom first, then ride. Please bring a copy of your permit (if you would like a Certificate of Motorcycle Training), your confirmation form and pen/paper for the classroom. Then be prepared for the riding portion of the course by bringing all of the items listed on your confirmation form. It is also suggested that you bring plenty to drink, snacks and a lunch for breaks during the day. There will be a lunch break midday.

Because the goal of this German course is to enable you to speak German as native speakers do, you study German using a variety of tools designed to develop all your language skills: speaking, listening and understanding, reading, writing. Real-time communication with a trained German instructor together with online and offline activities help you build and maintain a solid command of the language, both spoken and written.

To take the Live German Course your computer needs to be equipped with Flash, audio hardware (sound card), and a headset or speakers/headphones and a microphone. The Flash player is a free software that lets you view interactive content created with Macromedia-Adobe Flash. You probably already have Flash on your computer because it is pre-installed in most operating systems and web browsers. If you have an older version of the player, you may need to upgrade it from time to time.

They come from many European countries such as Sweden, Spain, Italy, Poland, Hungary, France, Belgium, Croatia, Bosnia, and Greece. Also from Turkey, the Arab States, Japan or South Korea, the USA and Canada, Mexico or South America, and naturally, from Australia and the African countries.

The main purpose of all of our German courses is that you are able to do what you want to do as soon as possible, which is to speak German with people, read and understand texts, and to be able to write a little. This is what you will be learning, but grammar, naturally, is also important.

Please register as soon as possible, so we can reserve your place in a German course. We recommend registration 4 weeks before the beginning of the German course. Please fill in the German course registration form and the German placement test carefully. We cannot accept incomplete or faulty registrations. Please double-check your German course registration before sending it.

Together with your German course registration we need your on-account payment of 50 % of the German course fee in order to proceed your booking. The balance is due 2 weeks before the German course starts at the latest. Always use IBAN and BIC with transfers from EU-countries in order to save bank charges and speed up the transfer! After receipt of your payment we will send the booking confirmation and the address of your accommodation (if you booked one).

You get a certificate of attendance for each German course if you attended regularly and did not miss more than 20 % of the total units of tuition. After having completed a course level you can take an exam to receive a German certificate with a grade from Alpha Sprachinstitut Austria. If you want to get an international German diploma you can sit for an exam of the Goethe Institute or the ?sterreichisches Sprachdiplom (?SD) at our institute.

The University of Leipzig offers various language programs for non-German speakers that are interested in studying in Germany. You could contact the InterDaF of the University of Leipzig for more information.

You can log in and view sites in multiple sessions during the day until you have viewed the minimum of twenty-four (24) sites. Our system will total the number of sites viewed, and you will see the ?accumulated? total as you initiate another viewing or surfing session. Please keep in mind that the total will be displayed correctly when you view the 2nd site in rotation. You can view up to fifty (50) sites to earn extra credits.

You can go to the Workshop Home Page, click on the "Syllabus" link, and look at Week 1 Day 1. This will give you the tasks for the first day of the course. In addition, 2-3 days before the course begins, you will receive an email message from the instructor going over all the important points of the class. If you have additional questions, you may email the instructor, krauss@lclark.edu, and your questions will be answered.

In addition to the German course, you will also receive a homework assignment which will take about 1 hour to do. You may also need another half hour to learn vocabulary. A small weekly test will help you to see your progress in learning German. The more time you invest, the greater your success will be.

You can study German offline using the book provided with the course and the printable version of vocabulary, grammar, and exercises. If you want, you can be connected to the Internet for the time necessary to log into the German course and load the section that you wish to study. You can use the Preload button to load sound and data files to your computer's cache. You will be alerted on the screen when the loading is finished. At that point, you can disconnect and study offline.

You will be assigned a certain level after your German placement test. You can do the test together with the German course registration either at our school, by mail, fax, or online. You will receive a confirmation of the German course and the level in the confirmation after your on-account payment.

If you attend an intensive course you will complete one level in two months. Students who complete certain levels successfully can skip half a level or a level after having consulted their German teacher.

Before you register for a German course please contact the Austian embassy in your home country to find out details about the visa application. After your payment we issue a confirmation of your registration which you can present at the embassy.

A Camper's Guide is available in June to download. An email is sent to every child who is registered suggesting to visit the Camper's Guide page to find out all information needed prior to the beginning of the camp.

The course lasts three weeks (with a fourth week often available for those who need more time to finish up). Depending on your computer skill level, English language ability, typing and Internet connection speed, you'll spend from 2-3 hours/day, five days/week on average to complete the course.

Bring an open and inquiring mind! Wear what you want (business casual appreciated - for men, this could be a polo shirt and slacks, for example.). You may also wish to bring your own pen/paper for note taking although we always have these available on site.

No not really, although we do spend about 50% of the course time outside and it does rain a lot in Britain! Prior to attending one of our courses a comprehensive kit and clothing list will be sent to you. If you do go and buy boots or other such personal items then please make sure they fit and are comfortable.

For the classroom sessions you will need a pen or pencil, a photo ID, and a signed confirmation letter. For the riding sessions you will need: long sleeves and long pants (not baggy), full-fingered gloves that are appropriate for motorcycle use, boots or shoes that come far enough up your leg to completely cover the ankle bone (the one that sticks out to either side of your ankle), and some kind of eye protection (glasses, goggles, face shield, etc.
