HotSync is the registered trade name for the method of transferring information between a handheld device and a notebook, desktop, or other computer. The process is accomplished by using a cradle or a Hotsync cable. Information can also be transferred using wireless connections and infrared radiation (IR) in some situations. It is imprortant to HotSync regularaly! We recommend once a day.

Daily is preferred, however that is not very convenient. Due to a myriad of potential issues leading to the pda getting wiped clean of all data, we highly recommend you hotsync as often as possible and at least once per week.

Check the version of the Palm OS on your handheld (version 4.0 or later is required) and check the version of the Palm desktop software (version 4.0 or later is required). Check to make sure that you are using the most recent version of Gradekeeper. Make sure that you enabled Hotsync for each class from Gradekeeper.

Albums are under RAM/albums as the tree node (i.e. in the left part). This is because albums are themselves folders. If you copy to the card, then look under Synced folder. (Again: images as folder members, albums as subfolders.)

Unfortunately, using HotSync to transfer a large file to your SD card does take quite a while. We recommend using a stand alone card reader to copy files to the AUDIO/ directory on your card. Most computer stores sell card readers for fairly cheap (less than $20). For feedback about specific brands, try joining our Yahoo! Groups discussion group and asking what other users prefer.

The HotSync User ID is the name assigned to your Palm OS device as determined by you during your first HotSync. This HotSync User ID is essential for you to run PScorite's registered version. Alternatively, you may locate it within the Palm Desktop software at the upper right hand corner of the Palm Desktop to the right of User ID.

When I run it, it says "BDicty will not run. You may be running out of memory..." I have plenty of memory!

All the databases created by Shadow have the "backup flag" set on. This means the Hotsync Manager on your desktop is free to download your files at its discression. If you are using a recent Hotsync Manager (any of Palm Desktop 3 or later is new enough), it will automatically backup all of your Shadow files each hotsync. If your Hotsync Manager is old, and not downloading your Shadow database ".pdb"'s, try getting a newer version by downloading Palm Desktop from Palm. Shadow Plan 2.

Look for error messages for the last session, i.e. between the lines "HotSync operation started 08/11/03 18:27:34" Install To Card" is the name of the conduit that performs the copy. This conduit is part of the Palm installation. There can be a number of reasons starting from the hardware problems, through bad connection setup up to the messed conduits. We can give you only a general advice: visit various FAQ list or search for the problem solution using Google.

Tap on 'About' menu, then tap on 'About checkMoney'. You will find your Palm User Name. Please send this to get your registration code.

You are responsible for running getdata yourself to download new data, it does not happen automatically during Hotsync. There is an experimental conduit available for Windows users, but be advised that it apparenlty conflicts with 3rd party conduits such as Intellisync, PocketMirror, etc. You can find it on the pre-release page. The conduit will run getdata for you during Hotsync.

HotSync? refers to the process used to exchange information between a desktop computer system and a handheld system. Thus, this is the method by which the Suspension Assistant application is installed or re-installed onto your handheld device.

Using Wireless as explained above, with J-Pilot's File/Preferences/Settings/Serial Port set to net: eg net:192.168.2.100 You can't install songs to your clie using Sonicstage unless you have a Magicgate Memory Stick. However, you still can transfer songs to your clie using Data Export/Data Import programs.

I have a Tungsten T5, and some of my Earthcomber files will not synchronize. I have tried the above suggestions.

It should not prevent image installation, but can cause some confusion concerning the location where the file images are copied. (The RAM images don't present a problem.) The logic behind the file copy is as follows: Palm Desktop maintains a table of assignments which image type (jpg, gif etc.) should be copied to which directory. The table content is based on the requests of different applications (viewers). During the HotSync Palm copies card files to the directories written in the table. F.e.

During synchronization, your device uses more battery power than normal. If you're not charging while synchronizing, use the fastest HotSync method available (USB is fastest, IR and Wireless Sync are slowest).

The HotSync Manager application on your desktop computer lets you change the way you synchronize data between your handheld and your desktop computer. Most built-in applications on your handheld have a conduit that links the data on your handheld with the data on your desktop computer; each conduit has customizable settings. Some third-party applications install additional conduits. Make sure your data is being backed up. Some third-party applications change the way your handheld backs up data.

Make sure you are installing the "Palm" version, and not the "Outlook" version, of TripleSync. During the installation you will be prompted to install the TripleSync conduit, or leave the current calendar conduit. You must select to install the TripleSync one, as this is not the default setting for this option.

How to resolve error: Hotsync operation was interrupted ~ an application on the PC failed to respond to a confirmation query.

The programs, databases and settings for your handheld are stored in a "HotSync profile" on your PC. When you switch to a new handheld (or have serious problems with your current handheld), it's a very good idea to create a new profile so that HotSync Manager won't install old, incompatible programs and settings onto your new device.

Make sure that 'Desktop to Handheld' option is not selected in the conduit. This option causes the HotSync operation to import transactions from your desktop file into checkMoney accounts. You may have incidentally imported the desktop transactions and overwritten the existing checkMoney transactions.

Make sure that 'Handheld to Desktop' option is not selected in the conduit. This option causes the HotSync operation to export checkMoney transactions to your desktop. You may have incidentally exported the checkMoney transactions and overwritten the existing desktop file. Also, make sure you have unmarked checkMoney account(s). Money does not automatically add category information when you import a QIF file.

Yes. checkMoney allows you to export multiple accounts to your desktop. You must mark the account(s) for export. You will see a '|' in front of the account name if it is selected for export.

Yes. checkMoney allows you to import more than one desktop files into your checkMoney. Use 'Install Files' option in the conduit to add all the files. The conduit creates or appends transactions in the matching checkMoney accounts. Conduit uses the file name as the account name to locate it in checkMoney. For example, if you have a desktop file 'Checking.qif', conduit will look for checkMoney account 'Checking' and will create the account if it does not exist.

When you install a new version you cannot just hotsync the old databases to soarpilot. Sometimes the format of the database is changed to accommodate new features. You must load you data using the Settings / transfer screen. This will load your data into the new format databases. Details of which databases are reset is in the readme file. When you start the new version of Soarpilot for the first time, you will also receive a warning that a database has been reset.

NS Basic for Palm allows you to create your own databases directly within a program. A database is a collection of records that you can read by record id or sequentially. The format of each record is up to you: a record is a series of values of numbers, string, dates and other data type. Your program is responsible for the format of the records. The databases that NS Basic for Palm creates are standard Palm databases.
