Associate tutors are employed by the University on an hourly paid basis to undertake teaching duties. Kentucky certification is based upon the completion of a 4-year teacher preparation program that includes student teaching and testing when applicable. Kentucky requires a recommendation from the certification official at the college/university (where the applicant completed his/her initial teacher preparation program, student teaching) regarding the specific teacher preparation program completed, grade level, and at what degree level and completion date of the program.

The Writing Tutor’s knowledge is based on the College of American Pathologists (CAP) protocols and checklists. CAP produces cancer protocols as a resource to pathologists in effectively delivering the information necessary to provide quality patient care. The protocols consist of cancer case summaries (checklists) accompanied by background documentation. The background documentation includes detailed outlines, explanatory notes, and references.

The Associate of Arts in Teaching is designed for students pursuing careers in teaching, primarily grades K-8. Students in the program will gain an understanding of curriculum & instruction and teaching to special populations. A field experience is also a requirement of this program. EF teachers work a 40-hour week. On average this is 24 contact hours (i.e. delivery classes). The Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree is a Board-approved collegiate degree program consisting of lower-division courses intended for transfer to baccalaureate programs that lead to initial Texas teacher certification. The tutor communicates with the student and parents at each session as well as with the TeamUP! staff. Tutors are also available to speak with teachers or other specialists via phone and email.

With the goal of replicating a first year associate's workload, we challenge each summer associate to accept a wide range of assignments. Typical responsibilities include: research and writing; attending trials, hearings, and depositions; participating in client meetings and strategy sessions; conducting due diligence; and, in some cases, directly handling client matters. Graduate Teaching Assistants are research students who have their tuition fees waived and receive a bursary from the University for living expenses and a payment in return for undertaking some teaching. They are not issued with a specific employment contract - the assistantships are arranged by the Schools and the Head of Department is responsible for ensuring that contracted hours are not exceeded.
