Why don't you provide the content pre-loaded onto the hard disks?

Kaleidescape - FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Kaleidescape does provide a small amount of pre-loaded high-definition video content on every System that is sold. We plan to provide more in the future as we obtain appropriate licenses from the content owners. We are not confident that the fair-use provisions of the Copyright Act give us the right to do pre-loading of commercial DVDs or CDs without permission from the content owners.

If I buy a hard drive system that has pre-loaded songs, can I legally play these songs?

KAPA Anti-Piracy Agency >> FAQs
If the hard drive system has LICENSED content, it is certainly legal to play any of these licensed products. Before you buy any such machine, you should ask to see the licensing rights for the music loaded on the machine. There should be a licensing agreement between each music manufacturer and the company producing the player for all the music loaded on the player. Also, you should demand a copy of the licensing agreement before you order or accept delivery of your machine.

Did you get a license from the MPAA to make copies of DVDs on hard disks?

Kaleidescape - FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
A Kaleidescape customer has a fair-use right to make copies of DVDs and CDs that he or she owns onto the Kaleidescape System's hard disks. No license is required provided the copies will only be used for that customer's personal home video entertainment. The Motion Picture Association of America ("MPAA") does not issue licenses of any kind.

How do you do I/O to hard disks, video, etc.?

The Aggregate: Frequently Asked Questions about KASY0
Since our current research work does not require local disks, KASY0 nodes are completely diskless; there isn't even a floppy. Disk space is "borrowed" from one of several servers or from another cluster (also in our lab) that has a disk on each node. The same procedure is used for video, using either a workstation or a cluster video wall to display things from KASY0. All of this can be done via relatively "thick" connections behind our lab firewall.

Can I save to the hard disks of the computers in the Labs?

Technical FAQ - BIS
Students CANNOT save anything to the hard disks on the individual computers in the labs. Every student in AFIS related courses is allocated disk space on a Network Server. On your monitor screen you will see an icon in the top left corner called “My Computer”. Double click the mouse on this icon and when the window opens you should see an icon for the H:\Drive. This is your allocated space on the network server. You have limited space only on the network server.

What hard disks are compatible with black hardware?

Mac-Next FAQ
Drives that support SCSI-1, asynchronous transfer. Some drives may require that you configure /etc/disktab with the proper disk description. Some models of drive may not work if they do not allow asychronous transfer (frequently a jumper setting). IBM DeskStar drives, for example, are not compatible 'out of the box', and resetting the drive to asynchronous transfer (which IBM maintains is possible) is probably beyond the expertise of most users (not a jumper setting).

The panoramas that I've loaded don't show a map. Why not?

CubicNavigator - Tutorial
Not many panoramas on the web contain a map, and where they do a map has to be specifically created by the tour's author and added to the movie. There is no specific convention for doing this in QuickTime VR, so there are two methods used: (1) the authoring program can add a map as a QuickTime Sprite so that it remains with the movie, or (2) the author can add a map in the HTML alongside the embedded movie.

This could be the result of high temperature, dangerously close proximity of the hard disk head and the disks, or possibly a slow rate of revolution suggesting an abrasion of the turning knob bearing.
