SoccerROM features videos in a variety of formats, including DVD, NTSC-VHS, and PAL-VHS. Our DVDs use a universal format, and have been tested to work on DVD players in different regions around the world. VHS users in North America will generally require the NTSC format, whereas the PAL standard is used in most European countries. Our broadcasting equipment uses DVB MPEG-2 streams including MPEG-2 video and audio. The file you send us should ideally be a .mpg file with embedded MPEG-2 video and audio, 720x480 resolution and <4 Mbps bitrate is preferred (CBR or VBR). We will be able to support DVD files made with PCM or Dolby Digital (formerly AC-3) audio if you rename the .vob file on the DVD to .mpg. Your film will be transferred to a high quality DVD-R disc that is compatible with almost all DVD players. We also recommend that you preserve an uncompressed master copy of your film. We usually provide these on master-grade mini-DV tapes.

All of the videos sold by Amazon Books and Video Universe follow the 60Hz, NTSC format. This is the video format used in North America. These tapes will not play on most video machines in Europe or other countries that use PAL, SECAM, or other video standards.

These tapes will not work on most of the video devices in America or other countries that use NTSC, SECAM or some other format. All DVDs we are selling are also in PAL format. To get the best performance when playing video clips, we suggest using the Photo JPEG codec. The following settings are optimum: On Macintosh computers, the Photo JPEG codec is optimized for the G4's Altivec processor – it decompresses very fast, leaving more time for video processing. It does not have "keyframes" – this means that each frame of video is compressed into a single packet.

Unfortunately, our VHS and DVD products are available directly only in NTSC format, however, our DVD's are all reproduced using "multi-regional" or "no region" encoding, and they should be playable on DVD players worldwide. You'll need to consult your DVD player's manual to see what types of disks are playable on your machine.

Generally, nothing will happen to your account. We understand that there are unforeseen occurrences. However, if your bandwidth usage indicates additional members, then you will be charged at the appropriate level pursuant to the License Agreement. If bandwidth peaks because of unforseen occurences (fraud), we will not automatically adjust your account; only if there are sustained increases.

We employ two professional digital video cameras that record on to miniDV. Typically, we use a 4:3 aspect ratio. For an additional fee, we will shoot on any video format you would prefer, including HD and 16:9/24p

Content sent from the USB 2.0 port of a DISH Network DVR is MPEG-2. Content recorded from the A/V inputs is encoded by the PocketDISH and stored as MPEG-4. Other video content from a PC is stored in its native format (e.g. MPEG-4 AVI).

The audio stream uses an MP3 format, the video stream uses H.264 Codec at DV resolution, 30fps [for more info on encoding with H.264, check out YOUR ACTLAB TV].

All of our videos are in PAL format only (similar to UK/Europe/Asia, not USA). Our DVD's are in Region free.

There is a consortium of companies (Philips, JVC, Sony, Matushista, et al) developing a metal particle based 6 millimeter consumer digital video tape format. It will initially use more JPEG-like independent frame compression for cheap encoding of source analog (NTSC, PAL) video. The consequence of course is less efficient use of bandwidth ( 25 Mbit/sec for the same quality achieved at 6 Mbit/sec with MPEG).

Please note: NTSC, PAL and SECAM conversions are generally of less quality, so if you have a multi-format deck, we suggest you order the original format tapes that we carry.
