If a DVD is not recognized, you can enter the information yourself using the Web Utility. If this DVD is later recognized by the Kaleidescape Movie Guide Service, then the Kaleidescape information will overwrite the information you entered. Once a DVD is recognized by the Movie Guide Service, you can however edit any of the information about the DVD- for example, you can assign a different parental control rating.

Yes. Kaleidescape Players and Readers are only able to read Region 1 DVDs as shipped. The installer can use the Web Utility to set these components to any other region, but it is not possible to set them to be region-free, and you can only change the region of a given component up to four times. These restrictions are dictated by Kaleidescape's CSS License Agreement with the DVD Copy Control Association, Inc. You can have multiple Players and Readers in the same System set to different regions.

About 93 percent of DVDs imported in the USA (not counting personal home video DVDs) are already in the Kaleidescape Movie Guide database at the time of import. Approximately 75 percent of DVDs imported outside the United States are already in the Movie Guide. You need to be able to either change the Regional Code on your player or switch it be become 'multi-region'. If you own a PC, you can easily download software that allows you to switch between Regions. If you own a stand-alone player, it is can be slightly more difficult. Many players can be 'hacked', usually by pressing a sequence of buttons on the remote and there are many websites that list such hacks. If your player can't be hacked then you can get it chipped or modified.

First try the resident DVD player as the majority of our DVD players are coded to be able to play multi-region discs. If for some reason your disc doesn't play in the DVD player or you prefer to use the PC the you can use a software package called VLC media player which can be found by going to START > All Programs > Accessories > Viewers & Readers. Your region 1 disc should play using this software. Lastly, a program called Power DVD should be installed on the PC.

No, we do not region encode our DVDs (actually they are encoded region 0 for all regions). This allows any player in the world access to our DVDs; but, they are recorded and encoded with the NTSC video format, and your player must be able to handle this. Many overseas players are dual-format, so this usually isn't a problem; but be sure to double check before ordering.

Unless otherwise stated in the item description, all of our DVD's are encoded for play in at least Region 1 (sometimes 2 & 4 also), which is the North American DVD region. We do have a few Japanese import DVD's that are encoded for Region 2, which is Japan and Europe. Also, all of our DVD's are NTSC video format, as opposed to PAL format commonly used in Europe. If you are in the US, all of our DVD's will work just fine in your DVD player except for those few imports that are region 2.
