Wine exposed to air via a loose or nonexistent cork spoils basically because the fruit components oxidize. Oxidation, as you probably know more than I (it's been 30+ years since I took a chemistry course), involves a chemical reaction where oxygen molecules attach to certain other large and, in this case, organic molecules. Oxidation occurs VERY GRADUALLY when a new wine is maturing in cask as well as in the bottle as a wine ages.

The shelf life of our wines should be between 3-5 years, and that partly depends on how you store it. Though as most of our regulars will tell you, it never makes it that far! (It’s too easy and too much fun to enjoy!) Our wines are delicious when you bottle them, but yes, they certainly do improve with a little ageing. The process of ageing and maturity in a wine is often shrouded in a vague mystique, but there is substance to it.

All drinks containing alcohol can hurt an unborn baby. A standard drink is defined as .60 ounces of pure alcohol. This is equivalent to one 12-ounce beer or wine cooler, one 5-ounce glass of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80 proof distilled spirits (hard liquor). This is a common question that, unfortunately, doesn't have a single answer. People breathe at different rates, and you breathe faster when you're swimming than when you're resting. So, the answer is "it depends;" this is why divers have a gauge that tell them how much air they have at all times.

Technically, dryness in a wine is simply the absence of sugar. Hence, the opposite of a dry wine is a sweet wine. Many people commonly (and mistakenly) use the term to refer to wines whose naturally occurring acidity is apparent. People who generally drink sweet wines often refer to wines showing crisp acidity as "too dry." Acidity is present in all wines, but its extent varies. Generally, the riper the grapes were when harvested, the lower the acidity will be.

The EPA states that any radon exposure carries some risk; no level of radon exposure is always safe. However, the EPA recommends homes be fixed if an occupant's long-term exposure will average 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher.

I can never finish a bottle of wine the same day it's opened. How long can a bottle sit corked and still be good to drink?  I'm afraid to try the wine that has been sitting there a couple weeks. Food-and-Drink:Wine-Spirits] There was, in the beginning of the times, a dire need to let wine age for some good years before being consumed, because the grapes, the mixing and the overall procedure of making wine resulted in a harsh basis wine. Today, this is not the case anymore. You do not have to wait much nowadays to enjoy the full potential of your wine. Some wines can be consumed as soon as they are bottled, while some need some 2-7 years of wait.

Making the wine is rather easy. We use wine kits that include the sterile fruit juice, and all the additives required. It takes about 20 minutes to mix the ingredients and add the yeast. The fermentation process takes 7 weeks. Then the wine is ready to be bottled. Once bottled, the wine should age before being enjoyed. The lighter wines are quite good the day they are bottled, while the reds should age 6-9 months or longer to achieve their best flavor.

The amount of residual lysozyme activity depends on the type of wine, when the lysozyme was added, bacterial population, and the addition rate. The main contributors to loss of activity are polyphenols. Consequently, red wines retain less lysozyme than white wines. Research on Chardonnay in Europe showed that after 2 months only 16% of the activity remained when lysozyme was added to the must compared to 55-60% when it was added post-alcoholic fermentation.

Generally allow one day for replacing a heating and air conditioning system. Installing a brand new central heating and cooling system, including ductwork , may take two days. Be aware that reputable contractors will refuse to install a new air conditioning system or heat pump system when it is raining. This is due to the fact that when moisture gets inside refrigerant lines it can be very damaging and can cause reliability and maintenance issues. [ back to top ]

This is one of the most common questions and the answer is relative: everyone breathes at different speeds and, for example, when jogging you breathe faster than when you are sitting down. Therefore, the deeper you go the more air you use. Besides there are tanks of different sizes and when you go diving you always take along a content gauge to control the amount of air left in the tank.
