The CSO is a classification system organized around seven broad areas of scientific interest in cancer research: The CSO is helping lay the framework for better coordination among research organizations, making it easier to compare and coordinate public, private, national, and international cancer research efforts. The Foundation Fighting Blindness maintains a computerized National Registry to identify and collect medical and family histories of people in the U.S. with retinal degenerative diseases. Research projects from all disciplines are welcome. Students working on faculty-directed research projects and students working on their own research under faculty direction are encouraged to present their work. The latter category includes but is not limited to capstone projects, senior theses, and honors projects. The Lucidity Institute's research currently has three foci. These are: the mapping of brain activity during the initiation of lucidity, the study of Tibetan Dream yoga methods of inducing and manipulating lucid dreams, and the development of expert explorers of states of consciousness. The brain mapping project is an extension of prior research into the psychophysiology of the lucid dream state, which found that high central nervous system activation is a prerequisite for lucidity.
