There are two possible reasons. The obvious one is that you have virtual memory enabled and because ray-tracing can consume a lot of memory the System runs out of physical memory and starts swapping memory to the harddisk. The other possible reason is that you have the preview enabled. The preview creates an image buffer on the disk. You can set the image buffer size in memory by adjusting the slider "Image buffer cache rows" in the Preview tab of the Render Settings dialog.

Sort of. DScaler now handles basic recording and playback of specifically-formatted AVI files using a compression codec of your choice. The Microsoft Windows installation media that you are using only has ATA-5 support, which has a 128 gigabyte limit. The operating system installer must have ATA-6 support to use all of a disk that is larger than 128 gigabytes. The solution is to reinstall with Windows 2000 SP4 media or Windows XP SP1 media. If you do not have recent Microsoft Windows media, then research a "windows slipstream install" for instructions about how to create it.
