Cory High Gloss polish is designed to be used on all high polish finishes regardless of the materials used for finishing. We treat finishes made from lacquer, polyester, and polyurethane the same. with all finishes, the surface has to be clean to be conditioned. Cory Products are special water base formulas designed for safe use on all high polish finishes.

Satin Ebony finishes have evolved through the years. They have gone from varnish to lacquer to the latest water based poly finishes. Our approach is to maintain these unique finishes with water-based technology. If your finish is 5 years old or newer, we recommend using our new Cory Satin Polyester Conditioner. For all other satin ebony finishes, we recommend using our Cory Satin Sheen.

Wood finishing materials have evolved dramatically in the past fifty years. Originally finishing materials were made of varnish or rubbing oils until roughly the 1940’s. The next generation of materials used was lacquer. In the mid 70’s to early 80’s, finishes became environmentally driven to water base. This history can be used as a guideline to determine what finishing material was used and the suitable polish to be used.

The Satin finish is a matte finish and the easiest to maintain. Because it has a low sheen, it is very forgiving insofar as showing scratches, dents, and wear and tear over time. The Semi Gloss finish has some shine and is a little harder to maintain in that it will show scratches, dents and wear and tear sooner. The High Gloss finish is the hardest to maintain in that it shows everything - dust, dirt, scratches, dents, and wear and tear in general the quickest.

Make sure not to graduate too quickly from a 180 file to the white block. Try using the white block buffer a little longer than seems necessary. Be sure to wipe all grit and dust from the nail and the 3-way buffer, as even the smallest amount of dust will prevent a high gloss. Cuticle oil may be helpful. There may be a slight color variation from batch to batch. Allow the polish to dry completely before you decide it doesn't match.

Due to the heavy loading of ceramic particles and solids into our CERAM-KOTE coatings, a true high gloss cannot be achieved with CERAM-KOTE epoxy coatings. Only CERAM-KOTE urethanes, although loaded with ceramics as well, can achieve high gloss. All Minerelle worktops and cast sheets can be brought up to a high gloss level with additional polishing, however, we do not recommend it. We have many customers send this question to us. For the most part, this is a personal preference and for photos of sporting events any of the three will work well. My personal favorite is matte finish, but that also goes with the many of the photos that I have on the wall already. Gloss tends to show color the best, it also can be harder to see with light reflections shining off it. Gloss is also susceptible to fingerprints showing. Matte does not have the shine that gloss has.

New piano finishes generally require only occasional cleaning with either a dry or damp cotton cloth. For Modern-day Lacquered Pianos: Highest quality, hand-rubbed lacquers are used to finish some modern-day pianos. The finish on your piano will last a lifetime with ordinary care. "Ordinary care" means merely dust as you would any fine furniture with treated soft cloth. If a polish is used, choose one that DOES NOT CONTAIN SILICONE, as this material may impair the lacquer finish and will build up unwanted waxy film on your fine piano or furniture.

We prefer to use a natural oil finish and also to not to stain our pieces so that the natural beauty of the wood remains andover time, a rich, warm patina can develop. Our oil finish is a special mixture made up of primarily Tung and Linseed Oils. Most of our furniture and kitchens are finished with this strong lustrous oil finish consisting of 4 coats (sanded between coats) followed by a coat of beeswax. We use an oil because it actually penetrates the wood and is very water resistant.
