Since the World has millions of species of oerganisms, it is not realistic to address identification requests. A local library has adequate books on particular identifications and this means should be the principal source for this type of request.

We do not have staff at CalPhotos that can identify plants and animals, but we do keep a list of resources that might be helpful. Please see Identifying Plants and Animals for resources you can use to identify plants, insects, and other creatures.

There are several resources for insect identification. You can locate insect identification keys in books at your local library or on the Internet. You can also contact your local Extension Service office; click here to locate the extension office nearest you. For insect infestations that are causing serious medical or economic problems, you may try the Systematic Entomology Laboratory with the U.S.

All three pathogens, bacterial spot, bacterial speck and bacterial canker, may be carried on the seed surface as well as within the seed coat. Plants infected with canker through seed usually show symptoms at flowering time. One of the best ways to reduce the incidence of canker is to use clean seed. Although these tomato pathogens can be found on plant debris and the leaves of weeds and volunteer plants, they do not survive long in soil.

We do not have the resources to maintain these! Whilst most human diseases are represented in one or more mammals, there are thousands of disorders affecting other mammals which do not afflict humans. Diseases of non-human animals that may be transmitted to or from man (Zoonoses) are of course included. Arguably each species warrants its own Diseases Database 'subset'.

Unlike the fungi, bacteria cannot physically force their way into the plant. They must enter through natural openings such as the stomata and hydathodes or wounds.
