You need to use an editor to write your programs. ECLiPSe does not come with an editor (it is not an IDE), but any editor that can save plain text files can be used, for example, emacs. Save your program as a plain text file, and you can then compile the program into ECLiPSe and run it. For more instructions on how to get started with ECLiPSe, including how to run programs, please see the first chapters of the User Manual.

Ask Eclipse to create a new project (File -> New -> Project...) and, for the name of the project, type in the exact name of your new folder.

Use the Tracer. In tkeclipse, choose "Tracer" from the Tools menu. See the chapter on "Debugging" in the User Manual; and the worked example in chapter 5 of the ECLiPSe Tutorial.

After installing the Multimodal Tools Project for Eclipse 3.1 and launching Eclipse, you can create an X+V file by selecting File, New, Other, Voice Tools, X+V file. It's probably because you don't have a try/catch block wrapped around your BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(filename)) code. Look at how the CLI does it. You need to specify the location of your javadoc.exe. For Windows users, it's in your Java folder. If you can't find it there, you might need to install the JDK. For Mac users, the location is at: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK/Commands/javadoc.

General advice is to decompose your program into model, search, and results-reporting sections. Keep separate predicates for the modelling section, constraints (i.e. where you define any new constraints), and search sections; with a control section to link all the predicates together. This will help with debugging your programs and understanding them at a later date. See the nqueens example.

I first wrote Tapper because I wanted to use it; I modified it to make it easier for my friends to use (especially Christopher Strangio and the Dalbys), and I rewrote it for Windows so that it could run on a more modern machine (so that my friend Mervin Lane could use it). I prefer to use Emacs to write my programs. If you are using the command line interface, simply type 'emacs name' where "name" is the name of your program. If on the other hand you are using the GUI, click on the start application button (it's a "K" for KDE and a foot for GNOME).

The PT 2000/TopGun requires an application in order to collect, store, process, and transfer data to a host PC. Some program cartridges are "read only". Meaning the circuit inside the cartridge has a memory that has been programmed at the factory and it cannot be changed. This cartridge will only allow you to play patches from the cart or transfer them to the internal banks for modifying should you desire. Technically, the "read only" memory is a ROM or EPROM (Erasable, Programmable, Read-Only-Memory). The part number may be something like a 2764, 27C64.
