Once again, just like with color film we are almost exclusively "All Digital", unless the client prefers black & white film. We can still shoot black & white film if you prefer, but we are finding that most brides love digital much more than film because we can convert any digital picture to black & white or even add sepia toning by the click of the mouse.

Yup. I draw it with my trusty blue pencil (69 cents at your local Loomis & Toles) and ink it with a fineliner. For Episodes 2 & 3 I used a kid's watercolour set for shading. Cheap and fairly effective. For Episodes 1 (the revamp) 4 & 5, I scanned the comic unshaded, and shaded it in Painter Classic (a very nice little program I got with my wacom tablet). Later I moved on to Painter 8, which has a much more finished look than PC.

Yes, I shoot both black and white and color. The black and white is shot on real black and white film and is not converted from color or printed from chromegenic B&W film. The ratio of color to B&W varies depending on the preference of my client. The typical ratio is 85% color and 15% B&W. I can vary the ratio to 35% of either format to 65% of the other. (Some clients prefer more B&W) but I don't , however like shooting 50/50.

Each input file to the render program starts with 19 header records that describe image layout and processing options. The fifth line contains three numbers which specify the RGB values for the background. 0 0 0 specifies a black background; 1 1 1 specifies a white background; 0.9 0.9 0.4 specifies a light yellow background, and so on.

Create this (which is called a gradient fill) in Photoshop or Illustrator or whatever drawing or paint program you use, and place it in PageMaker. If you want to apply a color in PageMaker, make it a grayscale original rather than creating it in color. If you want to make it an EPS rather than a TIFF file, then make the preview a 1-bit preview (it won't look so good on screen but you'll be able to see the colour that you apply).

There used to be strict taboos against using black or white, but like a lot of other rules today, things are a lot more relaxed now. My personal preference is purist watercolor, without either black or white, but I've seen marvelous paintings that have both in them. The trick in watercolor is to make these neutrals look like they belong, and this can be tricky, as they have a tendency to come off pretty opaque and may contrast too strongly with the transparency of the transparent watercolors.

Another personal issue - although there are some guidelines to be adhered to: Colour does not work well in dark conditions unless you have superb lighting or use of Digital Cameras. Infra-red will not work with Colour Cameras. Black & White Cameras are normally a higher specification and offer a far crisper picture. Black & White will work well at night with the aid of Infra-red or normal Halogen Lighting.

You can use a black and white photo for the black ink side of your card. Make sure your images are converted to grayscale.

You are probably trying to play an NTSC disc in a PAL player, but your PAL TV is not able to handle the signal. If your player has a switch or onscreen setting to select the output format for NTSC discs, choosing PAL (60-Hz) may solve the problem. See section 1.19 for more information.
