Yes. Absolutely. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of our surgeries are performed at our Center's own Same-Day Surgery facility located on the lower level of Montclair Breast Center. Our patients have the luxury and convenience of using our fully accredited ambulatory surgery center. But these are not the only advantages. Our breast imagers and surgeons are always available to speak with you and your family after surgery because the offices are in the same building.

Cataracts usually start as very small and practically unnoticeable but grow gradually larger and cloudier. Make sure you schedule annual visits to your eye doctor to monitor the progress of the cataract. Your doctor will determine when it is beneficial for you to have them removed. Some cataracts never really reach the stage where they should be removed.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a comfortable rest area for families at the IWK Health Centre. It is more than just a room - it has a large living room, kitchen/dining area, an art room, and four bedrooms - almost like a mini Ronald McDonald House. And, just like Ronald McDonald House, the Family Room will be staffed -- a full-time coordinator and volunteers will provide support and security.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room will have only one purpose - to be a comfortable rest area for families at the IWK Health Centre.

Our family waiting room is staffed by a nurse liaison who will provide frequent updates to the families of the recipient and donor throughout the surgery.

Generally, MicroSpine is "booked" ahead for both evaluations and surgeries, but openings do occur. Usually, we can get you in for surgery within a month. The physicians only allow bookings approximately two months in advance, thus, we may place you on our waiting list until we begin scheduling the next time period. We always stress to potential patients that good doctors are busy while questionable doctors are not and can usually get you in for surgery right away.

The surgery schedule is finalized the afternoon before because there might be additions and cancellations to it. Calling after 2 pm provides you with the most accurate information and the least chance of disrupting your arrangements for arrival.

Ronald McDonald House and the IWK Health Centre have partnered on this project because in talking with families we know they need a place to relax and rejuvenate as they meet the challenges of caring for their loved ones in a hospital environment. At the same time, many families want to stay close to their loved ones in the Health Centre. The Ronald McDonald Family Room gives families an opportunity to do both.

The Family Room is a partnership between Ronald McDonald House Atlantic Canada and the IWK Health Centre, however, it is managed by Ronald McDonald House Atlantic Canada. The two partners will continue to dialogue long after the doors of the Family Room open, to ensure the Family Room delivers on its mandate to help families at the Health Centre.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a comfortable rest area for families. It is staffed and families will be asked to register in order to maintain the relaxing environment and to ensure the safety of families.

The Family Room hours will be 9:00 am - 9:00 pm. At 9:00 pm when staff and volunteers leave, the Family Room will be locked. Families in the sleeping rooms will have access to the Health Centre, but will not have access to the common areas of the Family Room.

Answer: The Arc's goal is to provide a single room for every individual. Currently we have 66 single rooms. By the end of 2004, we will have 74 single rooms and 25 double rooms. Shared rooms are often a personal choice on the part of the individuals.

The Studio and En Suite Single room can sleep a limited combination of adults and a child, with a minimum of one adult and a maximum of two people in a room. Please note that when two adults are using the beds in either the Studio or En Suite Single Room there is no room for a cot for a child. For your comfort the beds are fitted with Comfort mattresses, and the Studio has bedside reading lights.

New Bariatric program appointments with the nurse practitioner are made once we receive your personal history form. An evaluation appointment with the surgeon is usually booked 4-6 weeks after we receive a clearance letter from your clinical nutritionist or bariatric physician. Once a patient is seen by the surgeon and the surgeon and patient agree surgery is appropriate, the operation can usually be scheduled within 8 weeks.

The "New" technology is here! Custom Lasik using Wavefront technology is now approved or pending by the FDA in the United States on all the mainstream excimer lasers. However, not everyone needs or will benefit from "Custom" Lasik surgery. There are tests we perform to determine who will benefit from the more expensive custom treatment. These tests are performed prior to Lasik surgery.

There are two lobbys available to family members who have a loved one in surgery; one is a quiet room while the other has a television. These are located down the hall from the operating room. You will be directed to these rooms by one of the operating room technicians (folks in purple scrubs). There is a waiting room down the hall from the OR.

There are different waiting areas depending on the type of surgery or procedure you are having. You and your family will receive instructions regarding where to wait on the day you arrive at the hospital.

Do not wait. Lock your windows & doors and leave immediately. Road blocks are being set to restrict access into the area so if you wait, your family may not be able to get to you. Before leaving your home or business, call someone & tell them where you are going so other family members can reach you. Designate a place outside of the Emergency Protection Zones to meet together if possible.

The doctor will see your family immediately before surgery and be available to speak with them again right after the surgery. Yes. Not only will we give you names of people who have been our patients, we will try to match you up with a patient who has similar circumstances. For example, if you are a mother of young children, we will give you the names of other mothers with young children. If you are a senior citizen, we’ll find another one for you to talk to.

During check-in we'll provide your family with a pager. During your procedure, your family is welcome to spend time in our cafe, reading room or leave the building. We'll page them with updates.

Most times yes. But because we have upstairs and down stairs, we usually ask you to park where it is most convenient for you. Sometimes the big cars take extra space. But we have enough parking for everyone. Including boats & trailers.

If you are traveling to a hospital or cancer center in another city, ask if they have a hotel on-site, and use it, if possible. They may be able to check you in at the hotel and take routine blood and urine samples in your room. For example, M.D. Anderson owns the Rotary House International and provides those services. Some centers/hospitals may have similar facilities or arrangements with local hotels. Check with them for details.

When you are undergoing a surgical procedure, your care is in the hands of many people who make up the operating room team. Your surgeon will obviously be present and will likely have assistants which may be other surgeons or physicians, nurses and/or technologists. A specialist in anesthesiology will be present as well - either a physician (known as an anesthesiologist) or a certified registered nurse anesthetist (or CRNA).

After surgery, some patients will go to a recovery room or directly back to their rooms. We plan to unite you with your family almost immediately after the surgery, if you so choose. Some patients prefer to be alone for a while and that will be honored. Special arrangements are made for children having surgery. Please do not bring siblings to the Surgery Center, if possible.

This could be. Although it is tempting to plan an extravagant "last supper" before checking into the hospital, it is never a good idea to eat a huge meal prior to a general anesthetic, even if it is many hours before. Your meal will not be fully digested and will sit in the bowel longer than it should, which may cause a problem post-operatively.

In BC, for example, you'll have to wait on average 78 weeks for knee replacement surgery. If you need hip replacement surgery, you'll have to wait approximately 48 weeks. 2 In Ontario, fewer than half those needing knee replacements received their operation within six months.3 With OneWorld Medicare's Treatment Management service, you don't have to wait. You can have your surgery within a month.

AVN is a progressive disease. To determine exactly when collapse of the hip will occur is unpredictable. Progression of AVN may be as early as 1 month or may take several months (usually in less than 20 months).

Providing you did not receive a blood transfusion in the process, there is no set waiting time after surgery. Persons may donate blood once their surgeon has released them to all normal activities.

The wait between the initial visit and surgery on average is eight to twelve weeks depending on your insurance company and how quickly you can obtain your medical clearances.
