Although QuarkXPress cannot subset and embed 2-byte fonts, other applications can. One such application is Adobe Acrobat Distiller 4.0 or later. Linux Xprt build from http://xprint.mozdev.org/'s source supports TrueType fonts out-of-the-box (starting with the 008 development tree; xprint.mozdev.org's releases <= 007 do not support TrueType fonts) and and does not require any special actions. Sun's Xprt on Solaris (/usr/openwin/bin/Xprt) has TrueType font support out-of-the-box and does not require any special actions.

Like Roman fonts, there are two primary formats for 2-byte fonts: TrueType and Type 1. A selection of 2-byte TrueType fonts are included with East Asian operating systems and language kits. These include East Asian versions of Mac OS, 1-byte language versions of Mac OS with East Asian language kits, East Asian versions of Windows, or Windows 2000 with East Asian language resources installed.

To be able to use type 1 Fonts under Windows 9x,Me,NT you need the free ATM Light. If the ATM Light is installed, then you can preview, activate or print type 1 fonts without having to install these. TrueType and type 1 Fonts have the same quality. Windows NT converts type 1 Fonts into the TrueType format, if you install these at the system control.

Make sure that in the PC Setup (BIOS) that your Parallel Port (LPTx) is set to a Standard Centronics/Parallel Port. If you don't have a selection for Standard make sure that you do NOT have it set to ECP or EPP. Our ports are standard Parallel/Centronics Ports. If you have any devices, such as a switch box or a software key in-between the printer and the PC, do the following: turn all of your equipment off, disconnect these devices, turn everything back on and then try again.

Type 1 fonts are now supported (requires Windows NT/2000/XP/2003), You will need Version 2.43/5.43 onwards to access this support.

While XFree86 does not, at the time of writing, natively support TrueType fonts, there is a number of third party solutions. Some information about these options is included below. The XFree86 project is not responsible for any of these; please send any inquiries about them to relevant newsgroups or, eventually, to their authors.

If you're using the TEXT option in MasterWorks, there is a check box option on the TEXT PROPERTY box labeled "TTF". Check that box if you want MasterWorks to display your system TrueType fonts. You can then select and create lettering from those TrueType fonts found on your system. You may also digitize TrueType fonts yourself by using the File > Import TTF option to bring the text into MasterWorks as artwork segments. Type 1 fonts are the most reliable font to use in printing. They have a screen and printer version (.pfb and .pfm extensions for PC) -- both must be included when you submit your fonts to us. Developed by Adobe, Type 1 fonts are easier for imagesetters to read. True Type fonts, developed by Apple and Microsoft, are contained within one file -- a .ttf extension (i.e., webdings.ttf). Some True Type fonts do not provide complete character sets and can be unreliable with imagesetters.

Like standard text TrueType fonts, the logo is defined as a perfect outline which is resolution independent. The only time resolution becomes relevant is when the image is output to either the screen or a printer at which point the image will be created by Windows at the resolution of the output device. Therefore if you are using a 1,200 dpi printer the resolution of your logo will be 1,200 dpi.

Most people naturally associate TrueType fonts with text. Arial, Courier New and Times New Roman are all examples of standard TrueType fonts containing text. There is, however, another standard TrueType font called Wingdings that contains symbols instead of text. Typing ‘abc’ produces symbols rather than text. We use a similar principle when producing a logo as a TrueType font.

Make sure that you have embedded all the fonts that have been used in your original document. The problem often happens when Eastern European or Asian characters are presented in your original document or web pages.

A "Type 1" instrument is defined to mean an instrument affecting a right, title, or interest in real property. A "Type 2" instrument is defined to mean an instrument of reconveyance, substitution of trustee, or assignment of deed of trust. The electronic recording delivery industry refers to Type 1 and Type 2 instruments as "front-end" and "back-end" documents, respectively.

Whenever you want to download an image in high-resolution format you have to register using your personal access details. Every image found by a search can be downloaded. You do not need your basket or light box. Click on the image so that it appears in the enlarged view. You will see a button called 'Download JPEG' underneath the image. Click on it. The rest of the process is dependent on the browser you are using. Click on the 'Download JPEG' button. Image opens in browser window.

We do not generate these fonts when PDFs are produced with OCR turned on. These fonts require Unicode text embedding while we currently support only ASCII text embeddings. However, if one of these fonts is already embedded in the PDF document, the text layer (and the ability to search on it) is maintained by PdfCompressor.

Another person or a service bureau can print a Portable Document Format (PDF) file you create. Creating a PDF file requires the use of Adobe Acrobat Distiller 4.0 or later. This is a separate software product not supplied by Quark. Follow the instructions for the product, ensuring that in the Settings> Job Options > Fonts tab you check Embed All Fonts, check Subset All Embedded Fonts, and set threshold to Below: 98%. Many sources will tell you that TrueType fonts—a technology developed by Apple Computer in partnership with Microsoft—are buggy and unstable, and indeed, some are. But in our experience, the problems are isolated to a few bad apples (no pun intended) that we rarely see. We always try to accommodate our customers' files as best we can. So, our feeling is that if you have to use TrueType fonts as opposed to Type1, so be it.

Open the "Fonts" control panel, and click "Add". Then, look for the font files (extension *.TTF) where you copied or unpacked them. Select them, and click OK. You may install several fonts at the same time, simply by selecting them. Windows 95 requires a slightly different procedure. Open the "Fonts" folder you will find in the Control Panel located within "My Computer" icon. Then, simply copy the TrueType font into it. This type of file is generated by Windows 3.xx when a new font is installed.

Postscript fonts consist of two files, a screen font and a printer font. As it is used today it is a format developed by Adobe and adopted by other font foundries. It is used primarily by high-end imagesetters who prefer it because the relationship between screen image and printed output is more reliable. In most cases you need Adobe Type Manager to use Postscript fonts effectively. TrueType fonts consist of a single file which contains both the screen and printer versions of the font.

Your PSW 2.00a as it is now, without the Option, digitizes TT fonts in the lettering part of the software with a Complex Fill step satin or satin stitch. With Complex Fill stitches, you only have one stitch inclination. With step satin fills, this may give an adequate finished result, but usually not as pleasing as the built-in fonts. With Satin fill stitches you can have very long stitches, which are easy to catch and snag.

Adobe PostScript® Type 1 is a worldwide standard for digital type fonts (International Standards Organization outline font standard, ISO 9541). It was first developed by Adobe Systems for use in PostScript printers. Although Adobe is a leader in the design and manufacturing of Type 1 software and maintains the standards for Type 1, hundreds of companies around the world have designed and released more than 30,000 fonts in the Type 1 format.
