Please note that, depending on how your mail client is configured, replies to posts to the list will go to the sender, not the list. I feel this is wrong, as the list is primarily a discussion list, but the topic has been beaten to death, and the decision made. So if you want to send a reply to the list, make sure you change the To: field. On the other hand, do not "Reply to All". If you reply to both the poster and the list, the poster will get two copies, which is rather annoying.

If your mail client has a "Reply to List" feature, use that. Evolution has this in the Actions menu. Mutt has some features for handling mailing lists, including handling replies neatly. All other mail clients should have a Reply to All feature. Reply to All will make sure that both the author of the mail you're replying to and the list will get a copy of your mail. Double-check your To: and CC: fields before you send to make sure that slug@slug.org.

This is a philosophy discussion group and there's really no need for this kind of behaviour, but still, it happens. Don't waste your energy on it. Either reply calmly asking for clarification, or ignore it and devote your time to something more constructive instead.

The RedHat list is moderated. Unfortunately, the list was almost ruined by people who refuse to follow simple netiquette. Don't top post. Don't cross post. Trim your messages. Do a minimal amount of research before posting. Don't use texting, it isn't a language. We realize that many people don't have English as their first language. However, there is no excuse for laziness. U for you, plz for please, ne1 for anyone--these aren't English mistakes, they're sheer laziness.

The current Broadcast messages are not interactive so it’s not possible to send a reply. However, if you get a broadcast you think some of your buddies would like too you can forward it to them using Blast.

The "Reply To This" link is found at the end of each posting in a discussion thread. It is used to create threaded responses in a discussion. Use it! It makes reading threaded conversations far easier, and it makes it clear who a responder is responding TO. Use the Reply button in a message to write a response to a particular post. You'll see a screen similar to the Post Message screen. There are a few differences: When you reply to a post, the subject line will be filled in for you automatically. You can change it if you want.
