The Graduate School has a preferred performance level of a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (213 on the computer-based test) for all international students whose native language is not English. Generally, successful applicants to our program have TOEFL scores well above the Graduate School minimum. Our graduate program does not have minimum requirements for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

Our department does not have a minimum score requirement for the GRE. In order to be admitted to OSU, the Graduate School requires international student applicants to achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (IBT), 213 (CBT) or 550 (PBT).

If you're taking the TOEFL CBT the minimum score is 250. If it is available in your country and you are taking the TOEFL IBT, then the minimum score is a total of 80 points, with a minimum of 23 on the Speaking section. Individual departments may require higher scores. The IBT minimums are subject to change as we gain more experience on what these scores actually mean in terms of proficiency.

We require an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better for graduate studies at CSM. International students must submit minimum TOEFL scores of 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) or 79 (IBT) with minimum section scores as follows: We do not have set minimums for the GRE however scores are required for most programs. The programs do not have a minimum standard for GRE scores but consider them an important component in our evaluation of applicants. A grade point average of at least 3.0 is generally required. For international students the TOEFL scores should be at 250 total score and 25 section 1 (listening section). The application is reviewed in its entirety and if there is an area of weakness, strong letters of support or research experience will be taken into consideration by the committee.

The minimum score our department will accept for the computer based TOEFL is 250 (or equivalent for paper or internet based TOEFL). There are no established minimum requirements for the GPA or GRE. The average GPA of the students that were accepted into our program in recent years was 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale). Typically our students have scored above the 60th percentile on the GRE.

For foreign applications, we require a TOEFL score of 600. While your GRE score is important, we have no specific cut-off for GRE scores, and consider the GRE score to be just one part of your overall application. All applicants must submit a GRE score to be considered for fellowships or graduate teaching assistantships.

OSU requires a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in all previous undergraduate and graduate work for regular admission to graduate school. We require the general GRE exams; we do not require the GRE subject exam. (The average total GRE score for Statistics/Biostatistics students arriving with TA funding in autumn of 2001 was 1974; the median was 2020.

What we are most interested in is the applicant's research potential. These scores are just one of many criteria we consider. There are no minimum scores. We much prefer students who have taken challenging advanced courses to those with top scores on rudimentary courses. There are many ways for applicants to demonstrate their research potential.

We really cannot say based only on your GPA, GRE and (for international students) TOEFL scores what your chances of admission and a funding offer are. We look at the entire application, including your courses (and grades in them), your personal statement, and your letters of recommendation.

First we look at the applications on their individual merit. We look at all of the materials and try to arrive at an accurate portrait of the applicant that includes experience, the breadth of previous coursework and recommendations. We do see scores and GPAs in all ranges. In general, however, competitive GRE scores will be in the 600s for the verbal section, in the 600s for the quantitative section, and 5 or above (on a 6-point scale) for the writing section. Competitive GPAs will be 3.

Please remember that these are averages and not minimum requirements. When making a decision, we review the entire application not just test scores and GPA.

When should I apply? The deadline for fall admission is May 15, but we start admitting students early in February. Applications that are received after we have started the admission process have a reduced chance of admission because there will be fewer open positions remaining. For fall applicants, we recommend that the application be mailed no later than mid-January in order to have the best chance of admission. The answer to both questions is yes.

There are no minimum cut-off scores but admitted students are likely to have scores similar to other competitive programs in Rackham.

While we do require GRE and TOEFL scores for admissions consideration, we do not establish a minimum profile in terms of GRE, TOEFL, or GPA. Your application is examined as a whole.

The GRE (recommended) is an important exam score to submit with applications (include raw scores, percentiles, and exam dates). If these scores are very high, often they will be enough for us to act on an application. We generally look for very strong GRE quantitative and analytical scores, a GRE verbal score at or above the 35th percentile. There are no minimum test score requirements, however, the average GRE scores for the entering class of Fall 2006 were The average Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score is 619 (paper based), 269 (computer based), and 104 (internet based or IBT).

There are no minimum test score requirements. As a reference, however, the average GRE scores for the entering class of Fall 2006 were Verbal: 566, Quantitative: 760, and Analytical: 4.4. General GRE scores are required: your application will absolutely not be considered without them. The Subject GRE policy is more flexible.

In general, we look for at least a B undergraduate average, but the overall record is of primary importance. Individual programs may be interested in how an applicant did in specific courses, whether the undergraduate background course work was adequate for the program, and whether the applicant showed a pattern of improvement during undergraduate study. There is no specific cut-off for the GRE.

On the GRE, the minimum score required by the Graduate School is 850 (combined verbal and quantitative). The minimum undergraduate GPA required by the Graduate School is 2.6. The average GRE score for a Community Counseling graduate student is approximately 1100 and the average GPA is 3.5. With that said, a deficit in one area can be compensated by strength in another area.

The Graduate School minimum GPA is 3.0 but we like to see at least a 3.25 in courses relevant to the area in which you apply. As for GRE scores, we don’t set absolute numbers because each year’s applicants are judged against all others in that year only. Given that our programs are very competitive and highly selective, you will want to be sure that you do the best you can on all areas of the Graduate Record Examination.

The Women’s Studies Program does not have a set minimum GRE or GPA. Average scores of those admitted vary by joint program, but the average ranges are:

There are no minimum thresholds for GPA and GRE. Rather, we look at the combination of academic performance, background, preparation, and interest in the program. The average GPA of our applicants is approximately 3.7 (of 4 points), and the average scores for the GRE are 650 Verbal and 700 Quantitative and around 5 on the Analytical Writing section. We require that all students who have not received their basic education in English to submit recent scores from the TOEFL.

There is no minimum GRE or GPA requirement. The Admissions Committee reviews each aspect of every application before coming to a decision.

We admit competitive, above-average students. The average undergraduate GPA of our admitted student is well above 3.0 and the average test scores are above the 60th percentile. There are no course prerequisites. Most students have undergraduate majors in the social sciences, such as sociology, political science, or economics, but we admit students from virtually any discipline.

The last acceptable deadline to take the GRE or TOEFL is in December. It is strongly recommended that you take the test prior to the application deadline. The January test dates are typically too late.

We do not have a minimum score requirement for the GRE and subject GRE. The Admissions Committee evaluates your entire file. We do, however, have a minimum for the TOEFL. You must receive a minimum of 600 (paper) or 250 (computer). TOEFL scores over two years old are not acceptable. We do require the general and subject GRE tests to be taken. Failure to take the subject test will severely decrease your chances of being admitted, as almost all applicants take the exam and report a score.
