PHP 5.x versions older than 5.0.4 have a very important bug (bug id 32290). This bug affects object oriented software like G2, and the libraries that G2 uses (Smarty, ADOdb). We know of at least two features that don't work because of this bug (advanced search, publishxp). There may be many other problems, including data integrity issues. Bottom line: PHP 5.0.3 has a grave bug. Gallery cannot reasonably work around it. Upgrading to PHP 5.0.4+ should resolve it. If you must stick with PHP 5.0.

Yes!! We fully support UTF-8. We also support all the standard character sets that map to UTF-8 and even some that don't. We have worked closely with our Japanese bloggers to support their native character sets which do not round-trip map to UTF-8. These include EUC-JP and SHIFT_JIS. We have also worked with our Chinese bloggers and support the EUC-CN, GB2312 and GB18030 Chinese character sets.

The regular builds of Virtualdub (by Avery Lee) have YV12 support in fast recompress mode since v1.5.6. Most users won't have to compile anything to enable NTFS support. Almost every Linux distribution (with the notable exception of RedHat) comes with NTFS support out of the box. If you are using RedHat 9 (Shrike), 8.0 (Psyche) or 7.3 (Valhalla), then you can simply install an rpm for NTFS support. The rpm comes with detailed instructions. If you have an older version of RedHat, or another distribution which doesn't include NTFS support, then you will have to compile the kernel yourself.
