Yes. The Reading/Writing Center is an open computer lab. There are 13 computers in the main room of the Center and 20 computers in the classroom (generally available after 2:00pm). Printing is also available at the Center. Please note that the employees at the RWC are hired as writing tutors and not computer technicians. We are not trained to troubleshoot or deal with complicated computer matters. We will however do our best to see that your needs are met.

Yes, you may use the computers if you have an appointment with a writing consultant and the work is related to that appointment and takes place directly before, during, or after the appointment. Any of our consultants can help you log on to a computer. We do ask you to sign in at the entry computer station beforehand. Printing can only be done by consultants as part of the work of a consulting session.

To make an appointment at the WRC, simply go to room L-149 at the LAC campus or to the main desk of the Learning Center at the PCC campus and tell an available technician that you’d like to schedule an appointment to see an instructor or tutor. Drop-in appointments with instructors can be made on the same day only; scheduled appointments with student tutors can be made up to a week in advance. Sorry, but you cannot schedule an appointment over the phone or online.

Yes. And if you need help getting started, a tutor will assist you. We have IBM-compatible computers which run MS Word and the full MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Internet Explorer). WRC personnel are very qualified. Our instructors have the same qualifications as classroom instructors. All of them have Master’s degrees in their fields, and many of them have Ph.D.’s as well. All WRC instructors are experienced in the two-year college environment. Also, the WRC’s student tutors have all received A’s in the equivalent of English 1 (Freshman Composition) and another, higher writing class (such as LBCC’s English 3).

You may schedule two appointments per week, but these appointments cannot be scheduled on the same day. A student desiring privacy can request that an instructor not be told of a tutorial or the specific content of a tutorial.

The LibPrint system is the UIUC Library's public-printing system for printing at Library public computers. It is managed by the Library Systems Office (LSO). In the Biology Library the public computers print to a laser printer located on the table north of the Reference Desk which is in the North side of the Reading Room. The cost is 10? per page. UIUC Students, faculty, or staff can charge print jobs to their university accounts.
