Check the top left of the Configuration screen and see what User is selected. If the ‘Guest’ user is selected then the person will not be able to change the settings that are grayed-out. In order to correct this you must change the user at the top to the ‘Administrator’ user (or any other than guest who has administrator rights). You may have turned off the sound for your screen saver. Right click on the desktop, go to "Properties" and click the "Screen Saver" tab. Once there, click the "Settings..." button.
